batmantech
Ok So I understand and have seen the EGR marbles. I have a 05 (65000 miles)with p0404, p1335 egr valve has the gummy, soft, stuff on the top half of the egr vale. The marbles are connected to coolant usage--this truck has no coolant usage the bottle is full. So what causes the gummy stuff? Is this coking build up and a faulty vale? Does 8-26-12 then apply? Gofaster23
To completely rule out a small EGR cooler leak you should drive the absolute piss out of the truck, immediately drain the coolant, and hook up a rad kit plus to it. Pull a 25-30" vacuum and let it sit for half an hour or so. I've had luck finding the smallest leaks that way. Otherwise check the maintenance for the vehicle. Make sure Motorcraft filters are being used. How many engine hours? Make sure the latest calibration is installed. Rule out any conerns with an EGR system test and VVT test. Check for excessive oil in the CAC due to a restricted air filter or leaking turbo shaft seal. You can also try the EGR band-aid, the EGR baffle kit. batmantech
I agree on the baffle kit,you have to fix the core problem which is almost always the egr cooler/oil cooler. Getting back to the truck I refered to, I was miss lead with the coolant usage. Turns out this truck has multiple drivers and not all tell the maintence people what they are doing. They were adding coolant, vac on the cooling system hot leaked, when I pulled the egr cooler it had coolant at the back. My fault for believing the what I was told I should have just went on with diag.
Keith Browning
The reason I roll my eyes is because the baffle kit was factory installed in engines put in Econolines after 6.0L Super Doodies were no longer in production. Now, I have done about 5 or 6 completely plugged valves on these late model E-Vans. The baffle is supposed to reduce oil vapors from the intake wetting the valve. But these were all buses, that idle, a lot. I thought the EGR strategy kept them closed after 5 minutes... or was that just for the Super Doodies?
