Driving with Two Feet

Our F&I manager is driving a 2011 King Ranch with a 6.7L. He came to me and described that the accelerator was intermittently completely dead and then the truck suddenly snapped back to life. Scared him trying to speed up getting on the highway once too!

No DTC's. Ran OASIS and came up with SSM #2456. I know a lot of people who drive with two feet and I can see this coming up more and more. Once I asked him if he drove with both feet he made it a point not to... and solved his problem. I think this is a good feature but some people are going to have to learn how to drive again.

2456 - 6.7L DIESEL - INTERMITTENT LACK OF POWER/SURGE/HESITATION WHILE DRIVING - BRAKE OVER ACCELERATOR FEATURE

SOME CUSTOMERS WITH 6.7L DIESEL EQUIPPED VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE A PERCEIVED LOSS OF POWER/HESITATION/ENGINE SURGE WHILE DRIVING. THIS MAY BE THE RESULT OF THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) RECEIVING INPUTS FROM BOTH THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME, ACTIVATING THE BRAKE OVER ACCELERATOR (BOA) FEATURE. THIS FEATURE WAS INCLUDED ON VEHICLES BUILT ON OR AFTER 8/23/10 AND WITH THE CALIBRATION UPDATE CONTAINED IN FSA 10B17 AND TSB 10-18-2. THIS FEATURE REDUCES ENGINE POWER DURING OFF-IDLE DRIVING WHEN BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS ARE APPLIED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO PID'S ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOA FEATURE ON THIS APPLICATION. REVIEW WITH CUSTOMER BEFORE PERFORMING DIAGNOSTICS.

I only drive a car with 2 feet when there is a 3rd pedal. Posted Image

My friends father was strickin with polio at a young age. His legs and hips were deformed. This didn't stop him from living life. He had 11 children and drove an hour to work each day. I remember riding in the car with him as a kid. He would have to lift his right leg up with his hand and place it on the brake pedal and visa-versa. Panic stops were always interesting.
