2vkiller
I have a 2008 f-450 that has low boost and frequent regens. I smoked the exhaust and found the seal between the high side turbo and the low side turbo leaking. My question is, has anyone removed the low side turbo without removing the whole turbo to replace that seal? It looks like it can be done but I don't have alot of experience with the 6.4. Thanks guys!
Shlep
Ok, I'll be the one..... no you must remove both as an assembly in order to do a proper repair.
2vkiller
That's what I did. I had never really messed with a 6.4 till the other day. There was no way of doing it that way properly.
Matt Saunoras
what's your guys success rate with the tool used to joint the 2 turbos together. i don't know what exactly happened but i bent the shit out of it when i did my last turbo
Keith Browning
I have not had any problems as of yet. The manual says to measure the gap but I recall being told the thickness of the flange on the assembly tool or the lifting bracket is sufficient. I am suffering from CRS at the moment. Matt Saunoras
yeah that's what i put the last one together with. the tool failed on me about half way thru and i was suprised how easy it went together with a little light hammmering
Keith Browning
Are you fellers supporting the turbos so that they are aligned? The tool is only meant to draw them together.
joshbuys
yeah, tried using blocks of wood like they showed us in class to get them aligned....had to resort to using a block of wood to stand one on end, and then hammer them together!! Mikill
Same thing happened to me with the rods bending. Now all of them get reassembled using the deadblow.
