INSPECTION OF THE PISTON AND CYLINDER CAN BE PERFORMED THROUGH THE INJECTOR HOLE USING THE ROTUNDA PROVISION (SLIPV2636) BOROSCOPE OR EQUIVALENT. THE BORESCOPE HEAD MUST BE 7 MM OR SMALLER TO FIT THROUGH THE INJECTOR HOLE TO INSPECT DAMAGE TO THE CYLINDER WALL, PISTON AND OR EXHAUST VALVES. THE REMOVAL OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD(S) MAY AIDE WITH DIAGNOSING DAMAGE TO EXHAUST VALVES. THIS OPTION WILL REDUCE CUSTOMER DOWN TIME AND HELP IMPROVE OVERALL REPAIR TURNAROUND TIME. 3948 - 6.7L DIESEL - ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK CREEP OR DIFFICULT TO REMOVE SOME 6.7L DIESEL EQUIPPED VEHICLES, BUILT BEFORE 6/1/2010, MAY EXHIBIT ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK CREEP WHILE DRIVING OR MAY BE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. THIS MAY BE CAUSED BY THE DIPSTICK O-RING RETENTION TO THE OIL DIPSTICK TUBE. AN UPDATED CABLE STYLE DESIGN, PART NUMBER BC3Z-6750-B, IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE. EARLY LEVEL DIPSTICKS CAN BE EASILY IDENTIFIED BY THEIR BLADE STYLE DESIGN. TIP: WHEN CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL WITH EITHER DIPSTICK DESIGN STYLE ON THIS ENGINE, THE ENGINE MUST SIT 20 MINUTES AFTER KEY OFF TO ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME FOR THE ENGINE OIL TO RETURN TO THE OIL PAN. FAILURE TO WAIT 20 MINUTES WILL RESULT IN THE OIL LEVEL INDICATION BEING LOW. 3947 - SOME 2011 MODEL YEAR TORQSHIFT EQUIPPED VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 8/1/2010 AND 8/31/2010 MAY EXPERIENCE A NO 2-3 UPSHIFT CONDITION AND DTC P2702. SOME TORQSHIFT EQUIPPED VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 8/1/2010 AND 8/31/2010 MAY EXPERIENCE A NO 2-3 UPSHIFT CONDITION DUE TO A CUT OR TORN INTERMEDIATE PISTON LIP SEAL. THIS REPAIR REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF ONLY THE INTERMEDIATE CLUTCH PISTON (3C3Z-7E005-AA) AND SHOULD NOT BE REPAIRED WITH THE COMPLETE CENTER SUPPORT ASSEMBLY (5C3Z-7A130-AA). THIS CONDITION CAN BE VERIFIED BY REMOVING THE SOLENOID BODY ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLING THE TRANSMISSION AIR TEST PLATE (307-457), TO CHECK THE FUNCTION OF THE INTERMEDIATE CLUTCH. 3946 - 6.7L DIESEL - TURBO PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN F250/F350 AND F450/F550 SOME CUSTOMERS WITH MULTIPLE 2011-2012 F-SUPER DUTIES MAY REPORT THAT F450 AND F550 CHASSIS CAB 6.7L DIESEL EQUIPPED VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A CHARACTERISTIC TURBO LAG WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A LOW ENGINE SPEED WHEN COMPARED TO A F250 AND F350 PICKUP VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH THE 6.7L DIESEL ENGINE. THIS IS PRIMARILY DUE TO THE DESIGN DIFFERENCES OF THE TURBOCHARGER AND AIR INTAKE SYSTEM. CHASSIS CAB VEHICLES USE A STANDARD VARIABLE GEOMETRY TURBOCHARGER WHILE PICKUP VEHICLES USEA DUALBOOST TURBOCHARGER AND HAVE DIFFERENT HP AND TORQUE CURVES. REFER TO THE 2011 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY 6.7L POWER STROKE DIESEL ENGINE 'COFFEE TABLE' BOOK, LOCATED ON THE PTS WEBSITE, FOR ADDITIONAL ENGINE SPECIFIC INFORMATION AS NECESSARY AND COMPARE TO A LIKE UNIT, AS THIS MAY BE CONSIDERED 'NORMAL', PRIOR TO PERFORMING ANY DIAGNOSTICS 3945 - 6.7L DIESEL - DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID CONTAMINATION - SERVICE TIP SOME 6.7L DIESEL EQUIPPED VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT MIL DTC(S) P20E8, P202D AND/OR P207F. THESE DTC'S MAY BE CAUSED BY POSSIBLE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) CONTAMINATION. VISUAL INSPECTIONS CAN BE A VERY GOOD INDICATOR AND TYPICAL CONTAMINATION WITH DIESEL FUEL OR OTHER PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS WILL CAUSE RUBBER SEALS AND O-RINGS TO SWELL. COMPARE SAMPLES OF KNOWN GOOD DEF TO THE VEHICLE'S FLUID SAMPLE IN CLEAR CONTAINERS AND CHECK FOR ODORS OTHER THAN AMMONIA. IF CONTAMINATION IS SUSPECTED, DISASSEMBLY OF THE TANK ASSEMBLY FOR ANALYSIS MAY BE REQUIRED. IF THE DEF IS NOT CONTAMINATED, PROCEED WITH NORMAL DIAGNOSTICS. NOTE: USE OF MOST DEF TESTERS ONLY CHECK DEF CONCENTRATION LEVELS, BUT DO NOT INDICATE CONTAMINATION. NOTE: DISPOSE OF CONTAMINATED DEF IN AN APPROPRIATE MANNER IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS. 3944 - 2011-2012 F-SUPER DUTY - 6.7L - FUEL SYSTEM REPAIR/REPLACEMENT DUE TO FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION SOME 2011-2012 F-SUPER DUTY VEHICLES EQUIPPED THE 6.7L POWERSTROKE DIESEL ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: CRANK NO START; LONG CRANK HARD START; RUNS ROUGH; LOW POWER; ENGINE KNOCKING; EXHAUST SMOKE; OR FRP SLOW TO BUILD. THESE CONCERNS MAY BE CAUSED BY CONTAMINATED FUEL. REFER TO THE 6.7L DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION DIAGNOSIS AND SERVICE PROCEDURE JOB AID AVAILABLE ON PTS OR FMCDEALER.COM.
