mchan68
Has anyone ever had the pleasure (displeasure?) of re & re-ing exhaust manifolds on these? I got one here that I'm installing exhaust manifold gaskets on. The fasteners are all rotted. Warranty time lists 2.1 hours for both manifolds. I looked in the WSM for the re & re procedure and that was a big help (NOT!!!!). The driver side wasn't so bad, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the lower two fasteners closest to the front of the engine on the passenger side could be accessed, short of lifting the passenger side of the body off the frame about an inch like I did, and getting to them in between the body and frame with a short racheting 10mm wrench. How much would you guys have charged for this job?
Mike Jeanotte
Havent done one in a while but I think they pay the same or less that an F-series. I did several in a row and filled out DDRs and was always told it would be looked into if enough were filled out.
Brad Clayton
I turn a blind eye to exhaust problems on E-boxes. I treat it like a wiring repair. Ford pays .5 hrs to fix a wire no matter where it is. You make your money on taking stuff off to get to the wire to repair it. Same kinda thing for accessing rotted fasteners and so forth. JSHTech
I looked in the WSM for the re & re procedure and that was a big help (NOT!!!!). Don't you love that. I'm sure it's something like, "Remove 8 bolts. Remove exhaust manifold."
mchan68
Don't you love that. I'm sure it's something like, "Remove 8 bolts. Remove exhaust manifold." That's exactly what it is. And that's my point.
Mekanik
That kind of stuff makes me want to kidnap an SLTS guy and make him replace the manifold gaskets. But let him know I'm going to cut off a finger for every five minutes he goes beyond the specified time. I did a set a long time ago, but it wasn't rusty.
