Brad Clayton
Found this over at IATN. I usually don't get upset by peoples comments but I was actually quite offended as I read this. Quote: your first mistake was assuming the dealer and their monkeys knew what they are talking about, your second mistake was assuming that they were correct. If you take away their flow charts and dealer specific tools that tell them what wrong,, all you'll end up with is deer in the head lights....... This is a response to a guy who has put 3 fuel pumps on his truck and had the dealer check the truck and wiring to see why the pumps are failing, dealer said the wiring was fine. Keith Browning
Ah, I can't get in... I have no clue what my surname or password is or even what email I used to register. I stopped going to that site years ago. It even lost it's entertainment value. Screw it. Maybe I saved my info at home.
Jim Warman
OK.. this is in the "tech help" section. You need to be a "dues paying" member to read these things. Back in the 90s, iATN was a group of techs trying to help each other. Today it has become a poor mans "magic bullet". Too many "techs" (quotation marks intended) use things like this as a substitute for shop manuals, skills and training.
Keith Browning
You mean what I used to access for free I now have to pay for?
Brad Clayton
If you make a reply to the guys help request, then you can read the other poeples replies.
Jim Warman
No... for many years there have been things that us peons didn't get to see... you would have to become a "supporting member" to see some content. This is mainly things in the "fix database"..... FWIW, the fix database has been a "pay to look" thing since the '90s. I almost became a supporting member until a help request was e-mailed... "Do I have to remove the steering wheel to replace the turn signal switch on a 1979 Econoline?". Esoteric questions I can handle gracefully... Other questions (this example included) make you wonder if the asker is well suited for his chosen venture. FWIW, I firmly believe that iATN isn't checking credentials very well. In a misbegotten quest for "hits" I think they are allowing civilians in in high numbers (a high number of help requests begin with "this is my own vehicle".) So what was your reply to that comment? I probably wouldn't have been too polite in my response. I hear these kind of comments more than I care to hear in my neck of the woods. It's funny how their tune changes when THEY get stumped with a problem vehicle.
Brad Clayton
Quote: So what was your reply to that comment? Out of respect for the poor guy who is just trying to get his truck running, I declined to get into it with the jackass who made the comment I pasted here.
