SLBrook
What is the easiest way to test to see which injector on a 2007 6.0L is bad if you dont have a scan tool handy?
lmorris
If you really had to, you could unplug 1 injector at a time and see if it runs any differant. The ones that don't create a change in idle would be the bad ones. I would still try to get a scan tool, or take it someone that has one to get it scanned, then do the work yourself. Fordracer
You can also try using a temp gun and check the temp of the exhaust manifold where it comes out of the exhaust port.
lmorris
Ya, that too. It's amazing how much simple stuff you forget when you rely on scan tools.
SLBrook
Thanks a lot for the replies. I didn't even think about that at all.
Jim Warman
While the these tips are quite valid and can help to do a crude diag, if you are working on a modern diesel, you desperately need a decent scan tool.... I'm assuming you have an engine miss.... one that you might be attributing to a bad injector when it may possibly have another cause. Do yourself (and your customer) a favour and make sure you have adequate diagnostic tools at hand. I've been involved with repair the 6.0 since it's introduction and I refuse to try diagnosing any running concerns without our trusty IDSs. Without a scan tool, the best thing I can give you is somewhere between an opinion and an educated guess... http://www.edmontonjournal.com/Slave+Lake+dealership+survives/4847725/story.html
