Alrighty. It's been a little while since I've replaced a HFCM. It's going on a 2004 early build. The replacement part we recieved, 6C3Z-9G282-C, has no fuel heater. I was poking through the WSM and saw that the early build had the fuel heater and the later builds do not. The parts guy says all the numbers supercede to that number and thats the only thing to get. I searched through TSB's and didn't find anything about removing the heater from early builds. The parts guy contacted a few people and they said that we needed to order an updated fuel pump jumper harness.

I just want to know if any of this sounds right? Like I said, I've replaced a few but I think they have all been late builds and I probably wouldn't have had this issue. I don't know how much I can trust our parts looker-upper due to the fact that he never delt with diesels until I came here.

4968 - 2003-2005 EXCURSION/2003-2006 F-SUPER DUTY - 6.0L DIESEL - HFCM HEATER DELETE

SOME 2003-2005 EXCURSIONS AND 2003-2006 F-SUPER DUTY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 6.0L DIESEL, BUILT PRIOR TO 5/16/2005, MAY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE HFCM OR MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY. THE HEATER WAS REMOVED FROM MANIFOLDS ON VEHICLES BUILT BEGINNING 5/16/2005, AND ALL MANIFOLD/SENSOR SERVICE PARTS. THERE IS A JUMPER HARNESS AVAILABLE (P/N 6C3Z-9F759-A) TO ADAPT THE EXISTING HARNESS TO THE UPDATED MANIFOLD/MODULE. A TSB WITH REVISED KIT INCLUDING ALL THE NECESSARY COMPONENTS IS BEING DEVELOPED AND WILL BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF THE 4TH QUARTER 2005.

I am pretty sure a TSB was never released for this specific issue.

Posted Image Hey thanks!

Is that an SSM or what? I ran oasis and it never turned up anything, not that the updated version of the oasis symptom tabs turn up anything anyways...but thats for a different topic. Thanks again.

The SSM has probably been archived by Ford given it's age. That is why I started archiving them 4 years ago... at least the "diesel" related ones I come across. Here, the information is searchable and in this case, actually still available. If you look through the section here in our forums that is where you will find some of these gems. Posted Image
