eastendpowerstroke
Any of you guys deal with cummins powered F650-750 trucks? I have 05 650 in the shop now that vibrates badly at idle in gear so bad that its broken the strap for the coolant pipe, cracking the hood, and a 1/4 on the bed.(650 with pickup bed) Now we don't deal with many dodge powered fords so my reference pool is shallow at best, and my cummins dist isn't very useful to me(you NY and NJ guys have good luck with metro power?) it's not missing/skipping and runs as good as I can expect a dodge motor to run. I drove a used 2500 dodge pickup on the lot for comparison it's engine vibrated as much as the 650 but didn't shake the truck, I'm gonna throw some motor mounts at it unless somebody has any good info for me. It's quite a cool truck shame it's been cross bred with a dodge /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif
Torqued_Up
I attended the "basic" course years ago at a Cummins Metro Power satellite training center in Denville. It covered the diagnostic program and simple procedures like R&R injector... but my dealer has never sold any. (everybody wants a CAT engine) I did see one come in a few years ago and we sent it away because we simply were not equipped to work on it. As far as Cummins Metro Power I have only heard good things but no personal experience. Side note: I have now driven a medium duty with the Cummins, both Power Strokes and the CAT engines. OF them I liked the CAT best with the 7.3L second! I guess the 6.0 (VT 365) was a mental thing for me as I was expecting more of the umph I am accustomed to. And remember, Dodge does not make the Cummins engine but a Cummins engine certainly makes the Dodge! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
If you have access to Cummins Quickserve online take a look at the trouble shooting tree T062. This covers engine runs rough and misfires. We have had to reflash some of these engines for the vibration at idle.
eastendpowerstroke
Larry no quickserve we don't do enough cummins to justify the subscription cost. 3 trucks out of hundreds sold most are cat powered and a handfull of powerstroke's I realy wish this truck had a powerstroke it's not a "WORK" truck persay it haulls speedboats around a CAT would have been overkill but the truck salesman couldn't/wouldn't/didnt talk the guy away from the cummins so I'm stuck with this sick dog /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif only picture I can find
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
The Boat is Awesome, Truck doesn't look bad either.. Just a thought any Power tuners or exhaust upgrades or anything that would make this thing freak out. How about the exhaust? Ford had some issues with the down pipe cracking with excessive vibration right around the clamp near the transmission.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Just another thought... Is it backed by a a/t or m/t??? The Allison's had a issue with cracked and or broken flexplate adapters. It could be someplace to look, they would shake the bejesus out of the truck. But would not alter the performance until it got so bad that it dropped pieces all over the road.
eastendpowerstroke
wow Larry you brought this back from the dead. the truck has had a vibration from day one it is a got a a/t allison I just fixed the power feed wirring harness to the trans pcm where the mexican that built it tie straps it so tight it cuts the insulation last week. I'll have to look at the flex plate next time I see it.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
So it still has the shakes? I would have figured you would have torn it down to the ground and built it up from there, (the right way). Had another thought while sitting in my office(if you know what I mean). Mic out the damper these things have a rubber filled damper and have been known for getting funky. Do a 12-3-6-9 measure I believe the spec is within .002 of one another. LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
As to a comment you made, this truck is definitley not a Dodge. I have a guy that works in our Fuel injection shop that is still working for Cummins but works for us as well... I think you need to see his bumper sticker that's affixed to his truck, by the way a Dodge... Quote: Dodge builds it Cummins shakes it Words to live by... It could be the same interpitation that we have with Nav. sorry International Harvester. It doesn't matter what we work on if it drinks diesel and blows smoke we are all into it up to our eyebrows. Compression ignition what a beautiful thing!!! How about a sticker on a F350-F/whatever that says the same thing about Navistar????
