Mbl35
Today I got a call asking me to replace the glowplugs in an 03 sprinter, I believe it was a 6 cylinder. I refused the job because I never worked on a sprinter or the like. From what I understand the head is aluminum. Can anyone tell me what is exactly involved in this job and how many hours labor? What are the dangers-if any. Maybe I will get the repair book and call the guy back. Thanks.
Brad Clayton
I've never worked on one either, but according to this it must be pretty straight forward. Mbl35
well thanks but this morning i looked through the caller ID and the guys number was gone. Going from the pictur it don't look too bad to do.
Fredsvt
They aren't too bad to do, unless...... they have carbon built up around the base, then, well they snap off and the head has to come off. The glow plugs and injectors in those things on the I5 have nasty issues with compression leakage around the base, then it's a joy to get them out. Brad Clayton
Hmmm...it might be a good thing that you lost his number, Mike. My luck the worst scenario possible would pan out.
Mbl35
Ahh ha, the snap off thing-that was what was wandering in the back of my mind.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Side note..... If you get the truck up to temp..... You should be able to pull the G/P without breaking them.... It softens up the carbon enough to work them loose and pull them out.
