robp823
Have and 03 duramax,no codes, has a white haze at idle and under heavy load has lots of black smoke. As you go through the rpm range it almost sounds like a lifter tap.The only thing i was able to do with the scan tool at hand was check the balance rates of the injectors.Cyl #8 was at -5.03.Im wandering if that lifter tap sound im hearing is actually a fuel knock.Anyone have expirience with duramax? Mbl35
It's a bit of work but maybe if you swap injectors and see if the -5.03 follows. Do you have the adapter to test compression?
robp823
nada dont have a compression adaptor.-5.03 sounds like an injector thats letting to much fuel go but could be wrong.A compression test would prolly be best.
cbriggs
Injectors are a problem on these engines. If you call gm they will tell you to do all 8, and they are not at all cheap.
djmiller
Early d-max injectors were kinda junky. GM gave em special coverage up to 300K. Balance rate over 4 in either direction - give 'er an 8 pack.
Mbl35
Also from what i understand on that year it is possible for a cup to come loose and come out with an injector when removing it.
