Keith Browning
Anyone remember the late 1980's F-600/700/800 medium duty trucks? Ford had two diesel engine options for a few years that were Ford branded Cummins engines. They were 6.6L and 7.8L but the engines had a series designation the began with the letters "FD" followed by four numbers. Does anyone know what those engine designations were? My brain is starting to focus in on "FD 1060 and "FD 1460"
Bruce Amacker
Yea, I remember them. Wasn't the pump on the lower right with the frame rail wrapped around it? I think you're right on the numbers. Were those the Brazilian engines? On another note, for a laugh, behind me new shop the landlord has an 8.2 Detroit laying in the weeds from a similar vitage F600ish truck. I said, "What are you saving that for?" He said in case he needed a core. I responded it was not worth any more that it's weight in shit and no rebuilder would want it...... Keith Browning
The pumps were indeed wrapped inside the frame rail. Funny way to describe it but it's almost accurate. I recall having to replace one and it was torture getting it out and back in.
