ETS
Truck is 2006 F350 4x4. Built 8/05. Truck appears to have never been apart. Came in with complaint of no power, Scanned and found PO281 #7 Contribution, PO611 FICM Performance, PO2262 TC Boost Pressure Not Detected. Scanned cold, Values are within reason KOEO. Cold start runs bad. White smoke, Ran Contribution test cold 1,3,7. Failed. #2 Had a couple misses on startup. Road test truck has no power smoke turns black after warms up. Ran Contribution test warm #7 Borderline with a few misses. Turbo is toast, Vanes frozen. Air to Air full of oil no boost. Intake badly carboned along with EGR. Truck has 59k and has severe lack of maintance. Air filter is black. Replaced and ran again no improvement. My question is where do I stop? All 8 injectors or just right side? Is bad injector causing FICM code also or is FICM going also? Values are 12/47/12 at idle warm. Intake and Air to Air will be hot tanked. Is EGR valve needed in this case also? Due to smoke issue and severe carbon. I could make a laundry list on this one but what is really nessesary? I have a feeling there may be combustion gas in fuel rail on right side. Causing whole bank to act up cold. Inspected FICM harness and found no problems. Fuel pressure is good at 50PSI. And how about Egr and Oil coolers while I am in there? Has wrong coolant, Green. Difference is 10 degrees. Another strange thing I have noticed is both exaust manifolds are leaking at heads on almost every cylinder. Will be looking for plugged converter. Rookie questions I know. This one is strange!! Any input will be appriciated.
Matt Saunoras
My manifolds leak a little when cold but seal right up warm. Gaskets will fix that as there are none in there from the factory. Not really an issue unless the cust is complaining of a smell. Definitely put a ficm in it for the P0611 and you're right for thinking atleast a half the injectors. With a lack of maintenance I'd be thinking more along the lines of a bunch of spools gummed up. I'd be inclined to pull the intake to clean and would probably sell an oil cooler if I was already in there (if you can get one) Funny my truck was built 8/05 too
deezul
If you think you have combustion gasses in the fuel rail just do the quick test of spinning off the filter cap and turn it over watching for bubbles coming out of the fuel bowl. It sounds like this truck needs an engine makeover. Eight injectors, FICM, intake clean, CAC clean, set of exhaust manifold gaskets, turbo tare down and possible rebuild, oil cooler... Although it seems like a lot of work you could tell the customer the priorities. Sounds like this truck does a lot of idling to be so badly coked. ETS
Torn down already, No signs of combustion in injector bores. Just oil that looks like molasses in winter. It is getting 4 injectors, New turbo [old one is beyond repair] along with Vane Accuator, EGR cooler, Oil cooler, [high pressure screen was plugged solid torn and a corner of screen is still missing] But we all know where it went!, Air to Air cleaned, [drained a pint of oil out of it] Intake hot tanked, ACT sensor, As well as complete service. No FICM yet or other 4 injectors, That is as far as the owner will go. He wants to see how it runs first. This by far the worst case of neglect I have seen in a long time. Brad Clayton
Quote: Air to Air cleaned, [drained a pint of oil out of it] Not too crazy about that. This could be an indication of extreme piston to cylinder wall clearance. In that case all those little new parts would just be stacked onto one large bad part. Mikill
Before replacing injectors I would make sure Ficm is good cold and hot. You can't really diag injectors if you have a bad ficm.
ETS
Thanks for all the input. Have been out for a few days with flu. Found mail box on truck when I returned yesterday. Mr Clayton, I did quick crankcase pressure test and found very little blow by so I determined engine as a whole is sound. Got it running this morning. It is almost normal. Power is excellent runs a little rough cold. That will I think work out after a mountian run or two. Recomended other injectors and watch for FICM codes. I have not been able to duplicate a problem with FICM hot or cold. Before or after repairs. Has anyone tried a oil system cleaner in these engines? I am leary about this but it was suggested by another "Tech".
