ETS
Had an interesting one last couple of days. Local grave digger and headstone man brought his truck in. 06 F350 4x4 Dually 59K miles. Complained of no power. Scanned it P2262 No Boost. Road tested excellent power, 3 trips up mountian no problem no codes, A little background, Local dealer did turbo less than a year ago after catastrophic failure, oil changes and fuel filters every 5k. Bone stock. Scanned PIDS all normal. Let it sit overnight while finishing anoter job. Next morning; No power set code when it closed loop. Started up mountian 50 mph pedal on floor took snapshot ICP v3.1, IPR %50, Trim -.02, MFDES 41, MGP Psi 4, Load 64%, EBP 32, EBP v2.66. If you want any others just ask. These are the ones I remember. Got it back to shop max rpm was 3000. Tested fuel pressure 53. Tapped on converter no rattle, OK Dropped exaust behind cat found gray powder in pipe. Started engine and looked into converter side, Catalist had broken loose and rounded itself just enough to be able to spin like a disco ball. Shut it off and restart it would spin 1/4 turn power is back. Ever seen one do that? Happy Holidays, Mike
Dr_Siko
I have seen this too in a few of the ambulances in the fleet I service. The first one was hard to find because it was also running fine most of the time. Good find
Bruce Amacker
Ever seen one do that? Yes, on gassers several times. The first one kicked my ass because it didn't cause a low power problem, it surged at light throttle cruise. Ugh!
Keith Browning
Seen it a couple of times in my shop and the first one drove me crazy too.
ETS
Is there another alternative to factory converter? Dealer wants 1250.00 our cost. Thought his wife was going to have to dig him a grave when I gave him the price! Has anyone tried Dynamax? It is illegal here for us to eliminate it. Keith Browning
I am sure there are aftermarket sources. And I beleive it is in fact "a violation of Federal emissions laws" to tamper with or eliminate a catalytic converter. http://www.easterncatalytic.com I am sure a Google search for Diesel+Catalytic+Converters will be helpful.
