Keith Browning
I can put up with the common man not understanding how some things work, or in this case, don't work. So I diagnose this 2012 F350 tow-in no crank as a "bad" PATS key. The owner decided to glue a heavy magnet to it presumably to hide it on the vehicle somewhere. It became his driver's only key yesterday. What pisses me off is the guy has the audacity to challenge my diagnosis. He did pay for two new keys, programmed and gee, what do you know, the truck starts!
Jim Warman
So... how come you sound surprised?
Keith Browning
Actually, I was pissed, but not surprised. Nope, not one bit. It has been a trend lately that everyone is a mechanic and they know more than us. But you don't see me gluing things onto my PATS keys and asking to put the Motorcraft 5W20 synthetic blend oil in my 6.7L Diesel engine. Keith Browning
But "the guys" on the internet said... Actually it was a Service Adviser or Service Manager at our GMC store that told him what oil they got for him... so the story goes anyway. As for the magnet on the key that was all on the customer. Fredsvt
It's as bad as a guy coming in with a late model Honda, and saying I only use 20w50. We tell him it's 5w20, and he insists the cap, owner's manual, etc is a misprint. Most of our local municipal fleets are running 15w40 diesel oil in every vehicle they have. One has a bunch of Priui and that just worked oh so well.
