Keith Browning
To preface this post, read "Fuse Box Blues" if you haven't yet.I'm performing a PDI on a 2006 F650 and the HVAC distribution is stuck on the defroster position and the ABS light is on. Long story short, the vacuum pump and the ABS relay use fuse F2.24 which a body company had tapped into to add a trailer brake controller. No problem, and they actually began using the fuse taps that we recommended to them. (We have charged them many times to repair damaged fuse panels caused by their fuse taps)Well, good for them I say it's nice to see that they took our advice... but the IDIOT that did the wiring jammed a test light probe into the fuse socket spreading the terminals nice and wide. I just don't get it!
Torqued_Up
Hey that wouldnt be Dejana truck body would it? The bodies are decent but their wiring has always been bad. Well not all their trucks but I have seen a few that were really messed up.
Keith Browning
Yes, it would be Dejana Truck! Sorry, for the delay, I didn't see your reply. They are not as bad as they once were and I would actually say they are a good body company. I think the electrical part of any installation is subject to less than "ideal" methods and execution. Now if I could only get my parts guys to stock those 2 1/2" pop-in lights I would be set!!!
HeuiTim
I dont understand, ford leaves a bundle of wires under the dash on Super Duties for body builders, I always used them for power to snow plow controller, no hacking into fuse panel. Why is it so hard to untape the wire bundle that says BODY BUILDER on it. Tim
Keith Browning
My guess is that Ford has not always had the nice provisions that they now offer such as body builder access and upfitter switches which by the way I think is the best idea they have come up with in a long time. I would say that there are a lot of installers that have been doing things a certain way for a long time and aren't about to change. I also think it's just easier for people to remove the access panel and shove a fuse tap in there and be done.
