Keith Browning
VCM-1 or the new VCM-2? I am guessing VCM-1 as the new VCM wireless is built in.

Keith Browning
Alright... The wireless adapter for the original VCM is a little tricky to set up AND it has a weak signal. I have found that when setting it up it is best to use the "Ad-Hoc" network connection method. This type of connection means the VCM is directly connecting to the laptop's wireless networking card. The other type is an Infrastructure type connection that requires the use of your shop's wireless router. If the router is too far away the VCM will never be able to properly communicate. The problem with the Ad-Hoc method is that you can only connect to the VCM and not the Internet at the same time... unless you have a wired connection OR add a second wireless card to the laptop. You also need to be sure you are installing the updated VCM software from Teradyne to be compatible with the newer IDS versions. See THIS TOPIC for a discussion we had on setting up the dual wireless.

Torqued_Up
After seeing the wireless dongle that the vcm2 uses i tried that with my old vcm and it improved the connection a lot
lmorris
I have been having issues with VCM II connecting since updating to 83.02. After pissing around I found a nice work around for conection issues. Go into your START menu and find ETAS folder, in there is the VCI manager. Before starting IDS, fire up VCI manager and connect to the VCM II with that first, then start up IDS, you should be instantly connected. Shut down VCI manager and continue on. mchan68
I still have yet to get my VCM II to work wirelessly since purchasing it late in December. I've been happy just to use it hard-wired.
mrbudge
I still have yet to get my VCM II to work wirelessly since purchasing it late in December. I've been happy just to use it hard-wired. Great news, we are getting our first two new VCM2's any day now, and I much rather would have them tethered to the laptop. Harder to forget in the car that way. Aaron
I am thinking about picking up a VCM II. I used one last weekend, I like it. Connection is night and day quicker than the old VCM's times. After dinking around with a VCM1 for awhile trying to get it to communicate, grabbed another IDS computer and VCM II, bang. Instant communication.
