Keith Browning
2013 Ford Transit Spy Photos: So Long, 1975! New Diesel and Twin-Turbo Haulers On the Way I like the "Mystery Diesel Confirmend" comment. I guess we will be adding a new forum to the engine forums before long. DieselD
God that thing is hideous looking. It has some really big shoes to fill to take the place of the econolines. They are still doing the cutaways e-serious for the ambos, ryder trucks, etc?
Matt Saunoras
what is that some kind of radar reflecting stealth camo?
Mekanik
I'm a little scared because it's supposed to replace the Econoline right? What diesel engine will be in it?
mrbudge
You should see Sabine Schmitz go around the Nurburgring in one, a diesel yet. twbrit.com/.../the-nurburgring-and-top-gears-respect-for-sabine-schmitz/
Cetane
What diesel engine will be in it? http://jalopnik.com/5941177/the-new-ford-transit-will-probably-come-with-a-32+liter-i5-diesel
Steve Mutter
So does this mean that Keith should open a 3.2 duratorq part of the forum?
Keith Browning
So does this mean that Keith should open a 3.2 duratorq part of the forum? I have been anticipating this and waiting patiently, but not until I can get some kind of confirmation that a new diesel is definite. mchan68
I find it interesting that they state the 3.5L Ecoboost and the 3.2L Duratorq are one of several engines that will be available for market in North America. So what are the other engines that are going to be available? Why don't they get as much recognition? Also interesting and at the same time, not surprising is the absence of a manual transmission from the options list like its little brother the Transit Connect. I still think Ford is shooting themselves in the foot by their decision to discontinue the E-Series full-sized vans. Then again, they do seem to have a habit of discontinuing their most successful models like the Crown Vic and Town car so it really doesn't come as any surprise to me. I love their latest flop, the 2013 Fusions and Escapes. I think their theme song for those two models should be "Light My Fire" by The Doors for those of you old enough to remember. Alex Bruene
I still think Ford is shooting themselves in the foot by their decision to discontinue the E-Series full-sized vans. I don't know... The E-Box is dated, old technology, especially with competition from all the imports entering the commercial van market. One of the fleets we service has some Sprinters, I have driven several of them-although the early ones suck total ass, I was able to drive a 2012 Benz Sprinter last week, and it was quite a treat. If our new van drives anywhere near as nice as it did, it'll be a good thing.
Keith Browning
I kinda agree with Alex. The E is out dated and even if Ford has sales leadership with it eventually they will fall behind if they don't modernize and revamp the product. I hated the Transit when I first saw it. I am starting to warm up to it. I won't fully decide until I can seat my ass in one, drive it and get a real good look at it. Then we shall see how it holds up... and how well it does with respect to sales and marketability.
Jeff Clyde
The new style is growing on me. Like Alex said, the earlier Sprinters were marginal, but as with any new product, a few revamps and changes make the world of difference. We only need to look in our own backyard to see proof of that. What I see at our dealership, is that most people that want cube van/trucks now, opt for the F450/550 trucks over the cube van. Higher payload capacity, and better for alot of dock height applications. Not to mention, it is better for serviceability on our end ! The new styling will able us to stay on the same page as the competition as it evolves. I think that the reliability and fuel efficiency will be the main selling points at the start, then they will soon become a staple on the road replacing the E box. I know in our area the Sprinters are quickly becoming popular with alot of tradesman and fleets, even the Nissan version is showing a greater presence on the road ! Alex Bruene
Like Alex said, the earlier Sprinters were marginal I said no such thing. I said they suck total ass!
lmorris
even the Nissan version is showing a greater presence on the road ! Here too, and that is one ugly m.f. Ford should have no issues selling these.
