Just a heads up if anyone was not aware :

My buddy needed a halfshell for his truck, current pricing from Ford was $417 plus taxes. For price comparison I check out our local International dealer, $186 tax included ! They can sell to customer's cheaper than the dealer can buy it from Ford !

I hope this comes as no surprise to you. You can get most things from International... and cheaper. Once it leaves an International distributor or whatever, everyone involved with ford parts distribution has to get a piece of the pie.

Last one I bought was a GB reman. Cost was 275 exchanged, and haven't had any more issues with the truck yet, and customer is happy and that is all that matters. Actually bought another one for that price that is on my shelf waiting for the next truck to come through with a failure.

That would be me that sells them on ebay for $180. I started an e business a few years ago selling mostly powerstroke parts and mustang parts. For some reason, the 6.0 parts are very popular. Dorman also makes a repair circuit board. Sell price is around $180.

Most retail parts we put in, mostly at the customers request, do not cover labour in there policies. We have an International dealer just down the road from us and it would be most beneficial to start getting parts from them. Can anyone answer how International is as far as warrantying there parts labour wise?

If this is your plan then why not go there/call there and ask yourself... you will need to develop a relationship to some degree anyway.

Warranty somewhat depends on the dealer. All parts are 1yr over the counter. One dealer I worked at - sell a motor over the counter and it failed, we replaced it, even in if it went in a Ford pickup. The current dealership is - they give you a replacement part over the counter. I think the first dealership was doing it correctly though (or else they would not have been paid) As far as IDM's go, if you bought and IH complete ficm and it failed, we would have no way of programming a replacement ficm under warranty.

I don't think programming is an issue as all Ford FICM's do not come programmed - It used to be hit or miss at one time but I cannot remember the last time I replaced a complete FICM that wasn't blank.

I think if the part is covered, that is sufficient for most except maybe the DIY'er.

Half-shells don't require programming.

Don't know if this has been asked, does International sell FICM Half-shells?

What I was trying to say was if a over the counter guy came and bought a complete ficm, had it programmed for his ford pickup at the ford dealer or someone with IDS, then it failed, me as an IH tech can not program it if I was to replace it under the parts and labor warranty.

International sells the halfshells. You are correct that they do not have to be programmed.

FYI

Ford is going to start offering FICMs pre-programmed to a particular year....no PMI required. Just slap the puppy in and go to town.

They did that a few years ago. I thought they stopped doing it because people were still recommended to get the flash updated, but hardly anybody did.

Not to change the subject but bulletproof diesel is now offering their own in house built half shell. They are built from scratch so no core charge. I've had a couple oem half shells come my way because these guys don't need them anymore.

You'll be able to tell if one of their halfs were installed. The outer case is billet aluminum and quite pretty. Posted Image

Don't go to International looking for a FICM halfshell or be prepared for some strange looks.  You better call it an IDM bottom or else.. :P

$136 out the door, we have a wholesale account with them but I've never been down there before.

Its possible a complete ficm is more but halfshells are quite a bit less.

A halfshell from ford lists for $556.67 and 10% over cost is $367.40.  A whole FICM on the other hand would list for $725.00 and 10% over is $478.50.
