fordboy1987
Got thrown a 04 F350 in need of a oil pan. Its a 4+4 with a manual trans. Does anybody know if the pan can be replaced without removing the trans? I've heard the automatic 6.0 can be jacked up but I'm not sure on the manuals. I was talking to Brad Clayton this afternoon and HE couldn't remember!
Alex Bruene
The rear engine cover is different than the auto trans version, and the pan will not clear the cover. At least I've never been able to make one pass.
fordboy1987
Thank you Alex. The trans is coming out!
Alex Bruene
Perhaps wait to see if anybody else has any input. The reason for the transmission removal is due to the fact you need to remove the rear cover from the engine to get the oil pan out. Maybe somebody has a trick for you, as I have worked on very few manual trans. 6.0s, and oil pan removal has not crossed my path too many times. cbriggs
I have done a pan on a std 6.4l, but never a 6.o. 6.4l one went past the trans, cant remember much else, it was atleast 4 years ago i did it.
Keith Browning
I had an incident with a 6.0L automatic involving a floor jack... I did not remove the transmsion to replace that oil pan. I jacked the engine up and out it came.
