batmantech
Seems like this dipstick design is not "robust" enough. Seeing many different trucks with these tubes either broke next to the holding bracket or a spot weld breaks at the holder. Resulting in these oil leaks. Anyone else seeing these regularly? Any repeat breaks after 20-30,000 miles. I am thinking about modifing the bracket. Cutting off the bracket wrapping in rubber hose to isolate it then secure to stud and prevent crack or break in the future.
amailloux
I have seen a handfull, and have had no repeat failure. Just put an engine in 1 I replaced the tube on 20k ago. I think they are flexed during service, and finally fatigue enough to break. Those things make a huge mess under the truck.
Matt Saunoras
No repeat leaks but I'll frequently change them just for the hell of it on customer pay jobs. I've had many break at the bracket and a few rub through on the horizontal cooler
Aaron
Seen a few broken at the spot welds. Truck came to me from another dealer after getting glow plug harness, three valve cover gaskets and then a cover replaced for porosity, to fix that oil leak. lmorris
All the broken ones we have seen were tight to the EGR cooler and vibrating nastily at idle.
