ETS
Good friend has 03 F350 Dually Sets all 8 injector codes for low circuits. Engine barely runs. Blue smoke like steam shovel. FICM high voltage floating between 20.4 and 24.5. Low voltage at 12.5. Sure wish I still had a test FICM. Found engine harness chaffed at oil filter housing made temp repair no change. Local dealer wants to install 8 injectors I think they are wrong. It was in same dealer for a 4x4 issue and ran fine when dropped off. Picked it up and will barely run. Owner said they replaced 2 or 3 modules not sure which ones. Find out tommorrow which ones. NOT FICM though. looks like crusty OEM. Maintained religously every 6k. Has 135k on clock. Didn't have any time today for any diag. just a quick scan and visual check. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Mike
ETS
Thinking out loud, Open ground circuit? Maybe dealer left ground wire off? Will half shell repair this? Haven't used a half shell before.
Matt Saunoras
If it's an 03 and the original ficm it will have a 7 pin logic board and a half shell will not fit. The FICM itself could have been failing for a long time (no codes) and finally just kicked the bucket.
mchan68
Slam dunk a FICM at it, and be done with it!!!
Aaron
Have good used FICM with new ITEC halfshell on it if you need one. (4-pin)
ETS
Thanks Guys, I will replace it. Ford units comming pre-programed now? How many hours labor to replace engine harness? I am unable to find it in our labor guides.
lmorris
Thanks Guys, I will replace it. Ford units comming pre-programed now? How many hours labor to replace engine harness? I am unable to find it in our labor guides. Not all are preprogrammed. I told a customer who was stuck in Jasper camping that they were, his company drove one out to him and it was blank. I then, over the phone, helped him swap the half shells to get it running and back to us.
Aaron
F-series engine harness usually booked out 6-8 hrs warranty, and that was working at a fairly leisurely pace. The worst parts of the job are properly routing the crank sensor and camshaft position sensor wiring.
mchan68
The worst parts of the job are properly routing the crank sensor and camshaft position sensor wiring....... and yet the most important parts of the job.
Alex Bruene
The worst parts of the job are properly routing the crank sensor and camshaft position sensor wiring. Take the pins out of the hard-shell, route the wiring, then reassemble the connector.

That's the way I've also done it, it's still unpleasant to do especially the crank sensor because I have hands similar in size to that of a blade on a spade shovel. You, sir, have normal sized hands.... it is all these pussies with little girly-boy hands that make us look bad. Do they make XXL nitrile gloves? Aaron
Yeah, they had to get them in special for me when we had the Windbag axle recalls. The parts guy wrote "Sasquatch Edition" on the box. I think I have a pic of it somewhere lol.
ETS
Update on FICM. Owner finally brought in complete preprogramed reman from unknown parts last week. Ran great, Shipped it. Back today running basically the same. FICM voltage normal. Scanned no codes, IPR voltage .84 at idle. Seems out of spec. Going through posts for 03 to compare. I know not to trust pressure readings. Ran power balance 3 had very little change if any. Worse when engine is cold. No time to diag. today just a quick scan. Intermittent miss, no power, blue/white smoke smells like raw diesel. I think it is loosing injectors now. Owner changed oil & filter. As well as fuel filters. Going to check his work. He also added several cans of fuel additive after it started running bad. Unknown brand. It also went to exaust shop for new left manifold and rear crossover pipe. Had massive leak that cooked FICM. New 5" pipe all the way back too.
