Jwebb1981
Hey guys! I had a customer come into day, he knew that I used to work for ford, and asked if I knew anything about the bolts on the drive shaft where it bolts to the trans. It's a 99 F-350 with a 7.3l. He says that the bolts keep backing off. He tried lock tite and that doesn't seem to hold them in place. I was wondering if you guys know anything that will help him. Thanks
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
I've seen this a couple of times before. You should check the drive shaft and also the mid-ship bearing. Seen the shaft either being bent or loosing a balance weight off of them. The vibration tends to shake the bolts loose. Might as well check your joints at the same time. ktmlew
If it's a 2-piece shaft make sure it's phased correctly too. If the edge is worn off the locating pilot it will never stay. You might get away with coating the surface with red locite and assembing it?
Keith Browning
I would also be concerned with the bolt holes and the threads if the flange has been loose for a lot of driving. Bolt threads too!
