lmorris
As diesel techs it is imparative that we keep fuel systems clean, which means capping everything. After one use of those cheap ass red caps that Ford gave us for the 6.4L I decided to find better ones. Turns out the screw on type on replacement injectors are the way to go. So after many injector replacements, 20 to be exact, I had a nice collection of fuel system caps. Today I started to tear out said 6.4L for bedplates and went to grab my container of precious plastic caps, only to find them gone. Why on GOD'S green earth would some one have the nerve to take them, or have the highest level of stupidity to throw out something on a mechanics bench, when everyone in this dealership has been told to stay away from our benches, is beyond me. Nice way to start out the week.
Fredsvt
I feel for you there. I try to keep all kinds of various caps, plugs, fittings, etc so I don't make a mess or clean things, and when they disappear, it's beyond frustrating. I've learned, unfortunately, over the years, to put anything I think someone might want to use, borrow, steal or clean gets put into my box and locked up. It makes a cluttered mess at times. I end up putting everything away each day, and taking it out, everything is separated, sorted and boxed.
Brad Clayton
My box of plugs and caps is currently riding around in the floor board of my truck. Being the new guy in a new to me dealership means I just can't trust leaving them out for all to paw through. I have been collecting these bad boys for close to 15 years and it's value is right up there with my children's lives.
Keith Browning
I thought I was the only one with a bucket of caps. As a matter of fact I just washed them!
Bruce Amacker
Ditto here, been saving them my whole life. When I sold the shop he got the box, but my new box is aready quite helpful......
DieselD
guys haven't you learned if you do not lock it up in your tool box expect it to come up missing??? I have the same collection of caps and Ive got a drawer in my roll cart for them. I cant you how many times I found other techs picking through my bench looking for who knows what and until I started locking up what I wanted to keep it would always come up missing. I even locked up some shop supplies. A simple can of wd-40 if left on the bench would disappear.
batmantech
I even have a can of the old FG-800 red long caps that used to come on fuel filters. They all get locked up in my box too.
Fredsvt
So, today I had some use for my plugs, have a 2008 F350, 6.4. My first rad on a 6.4, belts, hoses, tstats, amongst a ton of other things. WHAT were they thinking when they made these things? Especially when an idiot runs plow wiring, accessory wiring and whatnot through the damn cooling stack and fan shrouds. I had the rad almost ready to pull, everything plugged, barely any coolant/atf on the floor. Then my boss had to help. He yanks off my plugs as the rad comes out, then tips it to the passenger side, so, I had a huge mess to clean up. I think I hate the mess more than the actual job. And of course, our Ford store doesn't have both parts of the lower hose in stock, nor the idler pulleys. Then along the way I found the left CAC tube nearly rotted through at those stuck on pads. Matt Saunoras
We've got a new asset guy and I swear the kid is a fucking klepto. He walks over today with a pile of wrenches and says here these are yours! I never saw him take one I cap all lines, powersteering, tranny, anything that can leak on me when a cab's up. Not one turbo has ever been returned with a cap.

lmorris
My first rad on a 6.4I guess these bad boys are finally coming out of warranty,eh? We haven't done a warrenty rad in a long time. The few retail rads we get, 1/2 of them leave without replacement. Not sure where they are going after.
