Chad_Kelsoe
So a buddy of mine recently bought a used Dodge, supposedly has a new clutch. Well last week it started slipping till the point where now it doesn't pull at all. So I order a Luk kit thru Napa, but they only offer a DMF with the kit. Get the trans out today and it`s already had a SMF kit installed. No name on the clutch, so no idea what brand it is. So in order to install the Luk kit is to try and find the crank adapter from Dodge. Is this even worth it, or should I try to find another kit with a SMF? Truck is all stock, and used for farm and towing work. It's a 2006 Dodge 3500 4X4 with the Cummins and 6- speed trans. We've had good luck with Luk clutch`s at work, so I would like to use it if possible.
Buddy_M
I've done a couple of these. I have used an AMS clutch 05-224 with a solid flywheel and replacement clutch hydraulic system in one truck. It's the same(as far as I can tell) as the 05 and earlier clutches, so the Luk 05-101 or 05-117 may work with that flywheel, or if you want the complete kit with flywheel the 05-179 and 05-183. Luk also stamps their name in the crank side of the flywheel, so may want to check that also to help ID what brand set was installed. The Luk numbers out of their 2012 catalog I listed are standard organic and the cerametallic respectively.
Bruce Amacker
http://bulletins.schaeffler-aftermarket.us/ Luk's tech support dept is (was) awesome. I have an old number, 800-274-5001 press 3, try them. Good Luck!
Chad_Kelsoe
Thanks for the replys. From what I understand, this particular transmission is the G56 6-speed, which uses a different clutch and flywheel from the NV5600 6-speed used in the earlier trucks. The only kit Luk shows with a flywheel for this trans is the 05-182. I ordered the adapter from our local Dodge dealer this morning and it should come in tomorrow, so I'm just going to use the Luk kit that I already have. I also looked through Luk's bulletins, but they only went up the 99 model year. I have not had a chance to call them though. The guy that owns this truck has no intention of increasing his HP, just wants a reiable truck to perform farm duty and haul his horses around to ropings. As far as the old clutch goes, no name stamped anywhere that I can find, but a few numbers on the engine side of the flywheel, along with the words "Made in China". If I run across anything else, I'll be sure to update.
