2012 Secondary Filter

Did I miss the announcement? The secondary fuel filter "housing" has changed to a no clamp design? We Ford fucked this one up royally in my humble opinion. The filter fits in the housing to tightly that you can barely turn it let alone lift it out. I had to use two pry bars. The only way it was going back in was with a coating of silicone grease.

I applaud the no-tool required design but WTF! Posted Image

As much as that clamp style holder seemed un-necessary... this new one falls under the category of "epic fail." The irony here is that I bitched to myself how the turn lock was all Ford needed and the clamp could be done away with.

I fought one of these for no less than an hour today, while going back together on one I'm doing a fuel system on. Needless to say i'm pretty pissed off because everything up to that point was going well.

I tried grease first, then sanding the housing, then sanding the filter a little. Nothing worked. I tried the old NAPA filter and it fits fine.

I saved an old metal filter base from the last 6007 I did and used that. If I wasn't so tired I would take a sledge to this plastic base. Office Space style.

I got a motorcraft filter kit and had the same thing. This filter kit I got also had a plastic bag and a feedback form with an address to send the filters to in it. I could not get it to fit period. I grabbed another off the shelf and it fit just fine. I am wondering if a part change happened and my filter was old stock or what. I have yet to get another one with the feedback form, or another one that would not fit. It looked like a genuine filter to my untrained eye.
