Aaron
Near me, there was a fellow who was trying to sell his Dodge pickup on Kijiji. Last Monday, two guys showed up to take it for a roadie. The owner was not seen or heard from since. Today they found his burned corpse in a field. They found the truck in an enclosed trailer on the weekend, at suspect #1's mother's house. Burnt corpse was found on suspect #1's property. Apparently, the two guys (suspects 1 and 2) took ANOTHER Dodge truck for a drive, but when they showed up at the guy's house to drive it, I guess he was about my size (6'4, 240-260) so they figured, I guess, they'd better not try any funny stuff. The first guy said he went for a ride, one guy drove, and the other guy sat behind him. Pretty sad story, all around. http://www.cbc.ca/hamilton/news/story/2013/05/14/hamilton-bosma-search-kitchener-waterloo.html

DieselD
Good example of always be aware of your situation. You never know what kind of nut job your going to get. I really dislike selling stuff anymore on some of these sites like craigslist. I never meet at my home but rather a public place during daytime hours. I always make sure they leave first and I take the long way home making sure I was not followed. I typically open carry my pistol as well (Arizona luxury). It may be overkill but better safe then sorry.
lmorris
You would almost be better off getting the guy to leave his car and registration with you and let him take yours on his own. It's worth the chance with all the crap that goes on nowadays. As far as public meetings go, I saw something on the news here in Edmonton where they will rob you in a McDonalds parking lot. SAD. Prayers to the family.
Buddy_M
Wow, sad to hear, I remember seeing the link on Facebook last week about Bosma. We had a local man go missing end of April in our town, later to hear that there were signs of a violent confrontation at his house, and the other day a body was found 7 miles east of here, but due to decomposition they are awaiting autopsy to determine if it was him. I've heard they have a man in custody in relation to it, and someone posted that heard possibly up to 5 or 6 in custody in relation to this. It's very sad that the little town I grew up in and at 7 years old was riding around everywhere with no problems, and now I absolutely refuse to let my kids do the same due to the influx of people. It's a blessing living in one of the best economic areas right now, but the people that the oilfield brings with it also brings along the trouble makers and ruins it for everyone. Aaron
I agree. In the OFF CHANCE that you're coming to my place to look at something (I live in an apartment building so I'd be hard to pinpoint as "OCCUPANT", I'm going to be outside waiting for you, and sizing up the situation as it developed, and if something smelled off, I'd just wander my refrigerator sized ass back inside. Guy who's coming to look at something I've got for sale doesn't know what I look like, so they can wait outside. That being said - I've sold a pile of shit on Kijiji, and always met somewhere public, aside from the fact that my house was awful hard to find, it was nice not having someone come gawk at the hot rods, my truck, anything that could be seen through the windows of my house, etc. The story now goes that the two guys that allegedly abducted Bosma were dropped off by another vehicle, which left following the truck. Police are working to identify it from a cell phone video. I don't know why they don't find car guys or mechanics or something to identify vehicles in these situations. A guy shows up to roadie my pickup if I'm selling it, with a buddy, I ask who's buying - and me and THAT person goes for a toot - other guy waits behind. Or I'm bringing a buddy of mine with me as well, who's of equal size and anger level, and as easily provoked to self defense. Still a sad scene all around. What the fuck is wrong with people anymore. Brad Clayton
they will rob you in a McDonalds parking lot I saw a documentary on Walmart a couple of years ago and one of the many problems associated with the store was the fact that the parking lot was very unsafe for shoppers. I had no idea what they were talking about, as I lived in the serene utopia of Vermont. I then moved to Greenville NC and was promptly informed by the locals not to go to Walmart after dark. There are lots of gang initiations and just plain ol random senseless acts of violence on innocent shoppers there.

Or here locally the big thing is car jacking. They will attempt it in broad day light rush hour traffic.

Alex Bruene
I can't escape this story in the news... I'm still waiting to hear more before I make decisions, but I have 2 possible scenarios on this one (besides the simple truck theft thing)... 1 being, there is more this Bosma dude than we are being let know, and he was in to something that got him dead. 2 being, this little rich kid may have been set-up... Think about it, if you off a dude, you don't put his truck in you mom's driveway and you don't burn his body on your property... unless you're really stupid or you want to be caught. JMHO. Aaron
The things that worry me about this: 1. Kid's (Mellard) father committed suicide not long ago. They are now looking into this more in depth. 2. An associate of this has an incinerator. 3. He doesn't seem too worked up about being in the pokey for the crime. 4. This doesn't seem like an activity that you just dive into, there's likely been others. Apparently now they are investigating a connection between him and a missing Toronto woman as well.
