Brad Clayton
I guess it could have been worse. The egr supply tube sprung a leak and melted the bypass valve. It got hot enough to melt the washer bottle lid.
Keith Browning
Did it damage the point on the hood?
Brad Clayton
Took it right down to bare metal on the underside, the outside was ok though.
Aaron
How long time wise was the exhaust failure to the actual meltdown, I wonder?
Alex Bruene
I've replaced a few damaged EGR bypass valves... But never seen one that bad!
lmorris
How long time wise was the exhaust failure to the actual meltdown, I wonder? Sometimes you have to shake your head at some of these. I remember a 6.4L that came in for exhaust leak and no brakes. The DOC pipe broke and the heat melted the master cylinder res. And they drove it here to boot. forddieseldoctor
Had one this week that didn't quite light up. The bolt that holds the bracket to the pipe was missing. 65,000 miles, no history of any engine work. Didn't hurt the hood any.
