vloney
Worked on a VW Tuareg for a coolant leak. After removing the air filter and housing, found cooling lines going to the rear of the alternator. The o-rings were leaking.
Keith Browning
That's a first? At least I know I have never heard of that!

jimmy57
Cadillac had them on some Northstar V8 models I think in late 90's. BMW likes to use a brushless alternator that is water cooled. Bimmer dynamo is likely the same as the toe-rag unit. Somebody needs to tell them that 'lectricty and water don't mix. I think you have seen all too well why they had to cool the alternator....... Matt Saunoras
I remember one of these from back when I was at a lincoln dealer. It was a used car, service manager gave the alt job to the best guy in the shop and he sent it down the road to the VW dealer.
Aaron
I remember Dave Young telling us about liquid cooled alternators when we were at Service School, but I forget on what vehicle. Likely something European. Anyone know what that guy's up to now?
