Keith Browning
All the cab off jobs on trucks prepared you well for this repair.
mrbudge
Was that an SBDS cart in the second picture? Henry called, he wants it back for his museum.
batmantech
Thanks for the pics brad... cool! That is a WDS cart in picture. I too have put a work top on one, complete with a drain.
Keith Browning
I think that cart was the "SBIS" or Service Bay Information System. It was simply supposed to be a PC and monitor for running OASIS, using FMC Dealer and training.
batmantech
Ahhh I stand corrected, I should have noticed the red plastic top.
Jim Warman
Several years ago, flatratetech.com (oh, there is a sad,sad story hiding in that) hosted a picture essay on removing the cab from a late '90s/early '00s Expedition. I finally found the article in it's entirity. For your viewing pleasure I offer http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2009/01/expedition-cylinder-head-removal-body-off/
Brad Clayton
This whole shop is a friggin museum. We got the SBDS, SBTS (red topped cabinet in pic.), WDS, NGS, and a couple a Super Star II's around somewhere.
Keith Browning
Ah! It's SBTS NOT SBIS. Service Bay Technical System. Oh man. CRS is creeping up on me!
Chase
This whole shop is a friggin museum. We got the SBDS, SBTS (red topped cabinet in pic.), WDS, NGS, and a couple a Super Star II's around somewhere. The dealer I just left still has a functioning SBDS. Edit: That still gets used a couple times a year. Edited October 2, 2013 by Chase
Brad Clayton
Man I wish our SBDS worked. I would hang a sign in the front of the dealer that says we service EEC-IV vehicles. That thing was unbeatable for working OBD-1 Fords.
DieselD
Man I wish our SBDS worked. I would hang a sign in the front of the dealer that says we service EEC-IV vehicles. That thing was unbeatable for working OBD-1 Fords. I didnt get to use the one we had very often(was dead half the time) but when I did it was a lifesaver. I loved that thing! Keith Browning
Did you tell us why you were slipping a new frame under this car Brad?
lmorris
Did you tell us why you were slipping a new frame under this car Brad? Judging by the fact that the front clip is removed in the first picture, I will guess front end collision with some frame damage.
Brad Clayton
Oh yeah, she took a lick. Ford makes a replacement front frame section, similar to the Super Dutys. The break is between the front and rear subframe bolts. This one was bent just past the cut off point.
mchan68
My God, how the hell did that car not end up getting written off?
Brad Clayton
Well........that's what we were asking. Evidently this car belongs to a really old geezer who loves it and wants to go to the grave owning it. So a deal was worked out to fix it instead of totaling it. I collect 30 hours for my part. ktmlew
So your area doesn't have a decent frame machine? Crazy to replace that frame instead of straightening it!
Aaron
That and based on the old geezer thing the car probably has 7/10 of a mile on it.
Brad Clayton
We have a new body shop manager (read that any way you want). That plus the fact that we are hurting for work, there was no argument when it was decided to send it to us for a frame.
