Dec 23 2014 5817-2013-2015 F-Super Duty - 6.7L Diesel - Exiting Forced Idle Mode In Cold Ambient Temperatures Below Freezing

Some 2013-2015 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may have difficulty exiting the forced idle strategy in cold temperatures below freezing. In order for the PCM to exit the Engine Idled mode, the reductant tank temp and the ambient air temp must read above 23F (-5C). To ensure these temperatures are in the proper range, monitor the REDUCT_TNK_T (Temp) and the AAT (Temp) PIDs in the IDS Data logger > Modules > PCM. Once these PIDs are both above 23F (-5C), the PCM will allow the forced idle exit procedure to begin. Once the Forced Idle exit procedure is initiated, the vehicle can then be driven outside to complete the exiting procedure if needed. Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) freezes as 12F (-11C) so vehicles in extremely cold environments may need to be moved indoors for an extended time to allow the DEF to thaw.

Mar 24 2014 4746 -2014-2015 - F-Super Duty - 6.7L Diesel - Reductant Line Damage From Improper Transportation

Some 6.7L Diesel Equipped Super Duty Vehicles may have a pinched, crushed or cut reductant line with or without DTC's (P20BD and / or P20BE). This is a result of the transportation company inserting a tie down hook into the frame tooling hole, near the right rear leaf spring shackle. In order to prevent damage to the reductant line there is a “No Hook” sticker placed over the tooling hole at the factory. If the reductant line is damaged, inspect the "No Hook" sticker to see if it has been punctured/removed indicating the tooling hole was used in transportation of the vehicle. If this is found, the transport company should be charged for the cost of the repair. Parts that are damaged due to shipping/transportation are not warrantable. Please see the Warranty and Policy (W&P) Manual for further information on transportation damage.

Mar 20 2014 4737 -2011-2015 - F-Super Duty - 6.7L Diesel - Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Warning Chain Information

6.7L diesel customers may inquire about the Distance to Empty (DTE) Message for the DEF system. Refilling of the tank with the proper quantity of DEF is essential to allow the vehicle to clear the DTE message. Adding up to 2.5 gallons of DEF may be required for the system to detect a refill event. Generally, the DEF tank should be filled during the oil change interval. Driving conditions that increase fuel consumption will also increase DEF consumption and will require additional fills between service intervals. If the DTE message is displayed and no codes are present, verify the Reduct_TNK_LV PID with IDS. If it reads less than 100%, DEF must be added. If the message doesn’t clear after the PID reads 100%, run the IDS SCR System Refill Activation routine.
