Ficm
Hey guys got a weird one here. I've got a 6.4L with no codes and the following varying symptoms on start up, it will happen for approx. 5 sec and then idle normal - engine hunts/stumbles - crank no start - engine runs very quiet(almost like its running on brake clean) Took for a road test, power delivery seems good. Monitor power balance INJ -15RPM with a +6 SFT. Low fuel pressure 4-5PSI. IDS kicks me out of High Pressure fuel test due to sudden RPM change? Also kick me out of Relative compression test with same message. When engine surges turbo actuator goes back and forth all the time. Has anybody seen anything similar, im think high pressure fuel pump possibly?
amailloux
Check the APP pids and make they all show no APP input.
Brad Clayton
Fuel rail pressure would be a good pid to monitor also. Check it against FRPDES to know if its high or low.
Ficm
Hey Brad, I check FRP KOEO 0.49V. Monitored FRP pid when engine hunts, FRP fluctuates between 3000-5000PSI. I was trying to monitor FRPDES, but it happens so quickly. APP ok.
Brad Clayton
I wonder what would happen if you disconnected the turbo actuator so it can't cycle while the engine is acting up.
tonybullitt
I had a bad accel pedal cause the frp to fluctuate bad and had same symptoms you describe, . Is there a pid for idle and off idle? Take a look at that not just the app 1 and 2. If thats ok. Try taking command of the frp and set at 5000 see what it does. 8WA Sman
Does a 6.4 run quite with the EGR stuck open like a 6.0 ?
Ficm
I cycled EGR valve, did not hear much of a change. We are behind on preventative maintenance on our equipment, truck got send out to dealer. They reported metal debris in fuel system and HPFP on its way out. Brad Clayton
That's exactly what I thought it was.
