Decoding the vin for gear ratio.

Hey guys I am looking at used pick-ups and want to know the vin codes for gear ratios. Ex. ?=4.10, ?=3.55. I am looking at 94-97 F-250,and F-350. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

The VIN will not provide that information. What you want to look at is the Vehicle Certification Label on the drivers door or opening. Obviously this means that you need to have access to the vehicle.

 

This is the 1997 service manual description of that label:
