Northman
98 Ford E cutaway bus chassis 7.3 removed engine, resealed pan and oil cooler. installed new mechanical fuel pump. after reassembly, now has no base oil pressure, with filter off cranked 15 sec and get about a quart of oil out. high pressure reservoir is empty as well. Oil pump (base) was untouched during this repair. dumb question: what am I missing other than the gerotor pump coincidentally failing during the repair process? lmorris
I gotta ask, because I have seen it happen and I can't think of anything else that could have happened, Did you leave a rag on the oil pick-up when you put the pan back on?
Northman
no rags used that weren't either in my hand or on the floor. However at this point I may remove the drain plug and dump the oil to take a peek inside.
ktmlew
Some of the early engines had the oil filter check valve fall out. Don't remember what issue that caused other than the oil not being filtered properly. Did you have the pick-up tube loose?
Northman
Never touched the pick up tube. replaced the oil filter adapter end of the cooler. (Ford Unit)
Jeff_E
Maybe the gerotor pump just lost prime and needs to be packed with vaseline?
