dieseldoc
I know this is a Ford dealer forum but some of you guys are multi brand so figure I'd throw it out. Got an 11 Yukon that the lift gate won't open on. The fuse and relay in the panels are ok. You can hear the module click when you hit either switch but nothing happens. I had to pull the trim back and pop the latch manually to get the gate open. Removed the panel to access the latch and sensors. Than of course it worked fine 50 times. So went and drove it on the roughest roads I could find thinking there is an intermittent connection. Came back to the shop and worked fine. Let it sit outside for a couple hours while pilulled a trans down for overhaul. Went back out and tried it and wouldn't open. Pull it in the shop and it won't open. Once I popped the latch manually now it works fine again. My thought is the latch mechanism, it was replaced 5 months ago ( not that that means anything at all). Looking for some insights as to cause of this issue, am be a tsb or something on it. A quick search of google it appears to be a common issue. Gmc was out of stock on the latch. Have ground and power to the latch. But I'm having trouble getting a schematic or theory of operation for the system to really dig into it. This is where being at an Independent shop sucks. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks guys
JoeR
Wiring diagram attached. Here's a service bulletin that applies to 2010 and older ones, but it might work on yours too. Do you have a scanner that will communicate with the Body control module? Power Liftgate Inoperative With DTC B153A Models:2007 -2010 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV 2007-2010 Chevrolet Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban 2007-2010 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Denali, Denali XL 2007- 2010 Cadillac SRX 2008-2010 Buick Enclave 2007-2010 GMC Acadia 2007-2010 Saturn Outlook 2009 Chevrolet Traverse 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon with Power Lift Gate (RPO E61) Condition/Concern: Some customers may state that the power liftgate (RPO E61) is inoperative. After initial diagnosis, you may find a current or history DTC: B153A set in the power liftgate control module. After inspecting parts returned to the warranty parts center, we have found several power liftgate control modules returned with no trouble found. Recommendation/Instructions: Please use the following information below when diagnosing an inoperative liftgate with DTC: B153A set. 1. Disconnect the connector at the liftgate latch assembly. With the liftgate latch connector disconnected, the 3 signals for the ratchet, pawl, and the sector should be inactive on the scan tool. 2. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between each signal circuit terminal (for the pawl, sector, and ratchet) and the ground circuit terminal 2. Monitor the scan tool as each individual circuit is jumpered to ground, the scan tool should read "active". 3. If either test above fails, check the wiring for the signal circuits, low reference circuit, or try a power liftgate control module from a known good vehicle. 4. If both test's above pass, monitor the internal switch inputs in the liftgate latch assembly for proper operation. • A) With the liftgate in the open position, the ratchet and the pawl should read "active" and the sector should read "inactive" • With the liftgate in the secondary latched position, the pawl should read "Inactive" and the ratchet and sector should read "active" • C) With the liftgate fully closed, the pawl, ratchet, and the sector should all read "inactive" 5. If one of the internal liftgate latch assembly switch inputs are not reading correctly in one of the positions above and the vehicles passes test 1 and 2 above. Replace the liftgate latch assembly. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed #PIT4041C: Power Liftgate Inoperative With DTC B153A - keywords gate lift module rear tailgate - (Mar 11, 2010) lift gate.pdf
8WA Sman
I'm pretty sure I fixed one of these a couple years ago. I'll look at my notes tomorrow when I get to the shop until then can you send me the VIN number.
dieseldoc
Customer needed the car back til next week. Will see if we have the vin on the workorder yet. I forgot to mention that this Yukon has the power open/close feature with a lift gate module. My solus will work with the body and lift gate module and will run bidirectional controls on it. I will get a vin soon as I can. Thanks for the help so far
dieseldoc
Vin number of the vehicle is 1GKS2CE08BR355627. I see you go to gmsi and pay $20 bucks for 3 day subscription. Anybody used this before, is it worth while?
8WA Sman
GM SI has a very good search engine. Did you replace the module 23190708? If so it have to be set up with SPS & perform calibration? Does the lift gate work with the fob? I did a switch on the one I worked on 15106857
dieseldoc
I haven't replaced anything on it yet. Wanted a diagram to track down the issue. I appreciate the responses. Truck is coming back late next week. Will pay the subscription for gmsi and see what we find out. I suspected the switch but you can hear the module click when using the switch and it won't open. Aftermarket fob does not work, the handle won't open it and the switch inside on the overhead console won't pop it either. Each will make the module relay click in the back. Need to dig into it and find what's missing or going on. Thanks again
