dieseldoc
Hey guys. Been a long time since I’ve posted but been swamped the last 6 months. I have a 2 valve 6.8 that showed up with a blown out spark plug. Wondering what tools you guys have found works best for this particular job? Also have a 3v 5.4 on the schedule for a spark plug change. Wondering what your preferred tool is for dealing with broken plugs. Murphy’s law says if I’m prepared for the worst I won’t need the tools. Ha ha ha. Thanks for the input guys..
Fredsvt
For the blown plug, I use the Time Sert "big sert" kit for modular engines. Works very well. The 3v, I've used the Lisle setup, works pretty good.
8WA Sman
For the 3 valve I always do an induction cleaner the PM before, then the next morning I use a 3/8 impact & a air regulator or my 3/8 cordless to remove them. With this method only had to remove 1 broken plug so far. One time someone tried to do plugs himself & broke some of the plug so I couldn't run the vehicle to do the induction cleaner. Every plug broke & the Lisle tool worked great.
forddieseldoctor
+1 for the Lisle set for the 3 valves. We use an old Ford kit from the escort days for the thread repair on the 2 valves. There is some pretty decent looking kits on Rotunda.
dieseldoc
Thanks guys I’ve heard guys talk about the lisle 3v kit and the timesert set up for 2 valves. But wanted opinions from guys that have actually used them likely quite a bit.
