Avg Normal pay for head gaskets

Hey guys this is for the other diesel tech here. Hejust did a set of head gaskets under warranty and WPI ( warranty Processing Inc ) told us he could not get more then 12 hours to do the job, when last month he did a set under warranty and got 25 hours. He wants to know what the average time under warranty that you guys have been getting.

After everything's set and done, I usually walk away with 24-25 hours. But I *ALWAYS* end up replacing the cylinder heads and for whatever reason, you get like an extra 4 hours for it. Otherwise I'd end up with around 20.

Once I got 32 for it, I don't know how or why but I certainly wasn't gonna argue it.

Can anyone in the states post what the average warranty labor they get for heads? The jackasses that do our warranty never want to give me more than 15 hours. They give me the 14.5 for the gaskets and .2 for the egr cooler. When I flag it I usually come up with about 18.0 depending on year. But then I end up getting back flagged. And it pisses me off because Im sure most of you know the level of difficulty and the amount of time involved in doing this job correctly. Any help with this issue would greatly be appreciated.

I charge the slts time for the head gaskets, .2 for the egr cooler and claim MT time for "diag" as per the coolant degass bottle overflow TSB. That way I don't loose any time on them. Usually 20-25 hr range. I do them without removing the cab, and as per the workshop manual. Im sure there are "supertechs" out there that can do em much faster though

dont forget about the turbo coking tsb if its over boosting causing egr cooler failure then headgasket failure. If your shop is anything like mine getting mt time is like pulling teeth. basically we diag for free since the tsb is all actual time. Im usually in the 20-25hr range too. Ive been known to get around 30 too

Wow, you guys are getting right fucked! 20-25 hours. We look up our own times here on SLTS and we make sure we don't get fucked like that. 05' F-350 4X4:

R&R cyl heads=6051AT 14.3

EGR cooler=6051A20 0.2

Cooling system diag asper TSB07-14-05=8005D 0.4

Termostat diag=857B 0.9

Add in all your 6005F diag as per TSB to make sure all tempuratures, cooling fan, sensors, etc are all in range. Plus the Tsb has a labour operation of MT071405 on top of that for extras. There are a few labour op erations that I can't even think of at the moment. But holy crap, I would be pissed!

I suggest you guys get to know SLTS and watch your warranty clerks (nazi's)and learn how to not get fucked.

The other way you can go is to contact tech hotline and give them the story that the unit needs egr and oil coolers. They will tell you to replace them and retest then do the head gaskets if required, then you get paid to tear it apart twice but actually do it once. Just make sure your warranty clerk codes it as MT in front of the egr/oil cooler labor ops, that way the system doesnt call it overlap.

I used to think looking up my own time was a real pain in tha ars. But I sure don't think that way anymore. We still have a warranty clerk to enter in all the times and keep tabs on us so that we don't overcharge. But I would never go back to having asomeone who has absolutely no idea as to what is what under the hood doing my labour times ever again.

Question. I read tsb 7-15-6. Does it imply that I am to charge M time for diagnosing all those components only, and use slts for the labor ops and times, or M time the whole job from diag to Final road test? I just started flagging hours and am still learning how to get the paid properly for my labor. Any tips, suggestions, would be so appreciated.
