IDS cable issues

so...i finally found out that once you go past version 46 and are using the ethernet adaptor, it wont frikking work since ford changed it from a static IP to dynamic.

thought i would pass that on. if you have the AE cable adaptor, you need a USB to Ethernet adaptor to make it work.

i figured that one out last night at 5:50, while trying to program some PATS keys for a customer that had to leave by 6pm. somnamabitcvhes@@@@!!!!!

the original versions of IDS up to 46 used a static IP address if you use a network bridge to connect instead of the USB cable (less issues with alot of computers, the USB cable i had didnt work all the time, you would have to disconnect a few times to make it com. correctly.

when they went to 47, they made it to where the IP is dynamic for some reason, which means you have to change the IP address of the bridge every time you update. finally got mine figured out yesterday, had to get the IP address of a USB ethernet adapter and use it to configure the network bridge.

and on a side note, you can run IDS on XP home with TWEAKNT software, it works beautifully! have been running it on my old Presario for four months now and havent had an issue aside from the updates.

I Googled it and downloaded it earlier. It loaded and does whatever it is supposed to but the IDS application still won't load and tells me it wont because of the wrong version of Windows. I don't see how it is going to get around that.

I'm still half lost, Joey.... is this connecting to the VCM or to a network?

FWIW, there is a jumper available for the Toughbook that has the USB connection screwed to the tablet. About six inches of cable and we have another USB connector. Tugging on the cable can't hurt the !@#!?$!.

For network connections, the ToughBook has onboard wireless but it has to be enabled in the BIOS.

While we spared no expense (other than the wireless router I donated) with our shop network, we have no concerns regarding connectivity to this point.... even when one tech (whose PC bit the big green wiener) decided that internet radio was what we needed.

FWIW... I only dabble in computers.... "network bridge" has more to do with morning rush hour for me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Yeah. I know. I hate using it but I hate excessive profanity and some guys cant seem to control themselves. Perhaps I'll edit the list... maybe shut it off. Do you know how much fun it was making the list? If my !@#!?$! read it I would be ashamed for knowing all those bad words! (it is more than you think) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

i dont use a USB cable for mine, its much cheaper to replace a piece of CAT5 cable if it gets slammed in the door or stepped on instead of the USB cable.

gimme an email address and i will send you the version that actually works. apparently, there were changes done to the net versions that wont allow it to convert home to pro, just to NT.
