Alex Bruene
It's very likely that there have not yet been too many repairs perfomed on 6.4L trucks. That being said, there are also not very many SLTs, so we will be using a fair bit of M-time for now. It is also very likely that the M-times that we are charging will help to make the SLTs of the future as far as the 6.4L is concerned... so take the extra time to get your torque wrench out, follow the WSM, don't take short-cuts (for now)... you know what I'm getting at... Keith Browning
Doing it by the book is a good idea but let us be careful about sand-bagging as well. How thorough are we? I'll bet many techs are always racing the clock and skipping important road tests, taking time to take data recordings and fuel pressure readings on the street (when necessary), road testing after repairs and re-running the self tests afterward. Running OASIS and checking SSM's, TSB's and broadcast messages are all important tools... just as important as that torque wrench. Yes, good food for thought! Ranger
Yes, I totally agree! Don't forget to get the large tub of vaseline!!
Jim Warman
Might as well get used to it.... we are seeing design and assembly techniques that are meant to offer more strength and dynamic and thermal stability with less weight... This is making our repair techniques, especially during reassembly, more and more important.... Bed plates.... unheard of 30 years ago.... stud girdles were race car exotica. Ever notice how far into the block the head bolts on a modular V8 go??? So many engine parts (and even transmission parts) are designed to add rigidity and stability to the engine block in modern designs that just bagging stuff together with an impact has become a practice we need to rethink and apply carefully.
