Tony302600
Our shop has been fighting the IT guy (also owners friend) about internet access accross the shop. We can only go to FMCdealer, and PTS. He put soo much security on the router and internet connection we cant look at anything else but that. Now i know that we shouldnt be looking at other stuff, but i catch myself in the managers office looking at this site since i had the same concern. Just wondering what access you guys have in your shops. I know my buddies shop they can go onto any site they want. J/C
DieselD
We have pretty much full reign on what we can do expect for the obvious smut sites. makes life and down time a little easier. We can access email tho which is irritating
Keith Browning
Yeah, pretty much the same here, full access with a smut filter Borg turned on. There are some web sites that are banned outright due to abuse. I think a lot of people have gotten over the newness of the net. I for one will now visit my site, this one /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif, while choking down my lunch or when something hits me and I need to post a question. Jim Warman
I would love to have a draconian filter on the PC in the lunch room..... About tweice a month I have to undo something that someone did during their lunch or coffeebreak in order to play a game or what have you. I use my cell phone and my wirelessly connected laptop to consult hotline when necessary.... If there are a lot of guys waiting at the back parts counter (or the front one for that matter), I have been known to phone our parts department.... (I have never seen a partsman that wont drop a live person in order to talk on the phone). The e-mail is no big deal either way unless I am waiting for something in particular.... One big plus is being able to access aftermarket supplier websites for online install or troubleshooting manuals.... Both the IDSs are hooked up about the same though the guys haven't realized it..... It's funny watching someone leave an IDS lying on a truck seat so they can walk to the lunchroom to check a shop manual or such.... when it's all right there at their fingertips.... It may be hard to teach an old dog new tricks..... sometimes it's impossible to teach a young dog ANY tricks....
DwayneGorniak
We can surf any sites we want. But we do have a problem with the shop computer being abused and plagued with viruses and spyware due to the crapy sites that people visit on it. I used to keep it clean before we had wireless and our own laptops. Now I just worry about my laptop and help the advisors and service manager with their terminals whent they ask me. Our dealer principal doesn't have a problem with us on our wireless system because he knows we are not stupid enough to ruin our computers on crapy sites. And what's wrong with surfing the net on coffee or lunch breaks? It's your own personal time and helps relax the mind sometimes.
eastendpowerstroke
unlimited internet access but the sales people, advisor's, and service manager have ADP WBT (windows based terminals) that are unable to store anything (no hard drives). the pc's in the shop are setup with limited user accounts so nothing can be installed unless you can log into an admin account and good anti virus software. but the shops never been the problem at the dealership, it's the sales people that screwed up the pc's the sales people all had pc's, took about 8 months until the last one standing was so screwed up from porn sight virus's and spy ware they wouldn't even boot up now all sales people have dummy terminals. Alex Bruene
We have recieved fair warning that our company computers are for company business only. Which basically means that porn is out (whaaaa!), but sites like this that offer information that helps me to do my job are okay. That and INFORD ofcourse.
