Bruce Amacker
Hey Guys: My IDS just went through an big new update screen on the internet I've never seen before, and a new test showed up- a Turbo Boost Test, under Air Management next to the EGR test. It commands the VGT closed at idle and graphs MGP. What are you guys getting on this test? The truck I did today only got 1.05psi. Thanks! Jim Warman
I haven't done any diesel driveability for a while and I was still doing the air management test "by hand".... However, the diesel performance worksheets went through a change some time ago.... Used to be we'd just hookup the scanner and go for a drive and see what we could manage for boost (a la 7.3 test).... A couple of years ago, this test was changed and what you are seeing is likely the "automated" version of the test. It's no secret that these things can be a diagnostic nightmare and I believe that their complexity has outpaced many techs abilities - either through inability to learn or lack of desire to learn. I expect that we will see more automated test routines before the dust settles. Dredging up an old thread.... we now have OASIS "quick start"... Using the IDS over our wireless network, I can start a vehicle session and perform either KOEO and/or KOER testing - start my web browser and navigate to the OASIS page and hit the quick start icon..... VIN and test results (along with God knows what else) are automatically uploaded to OASIS and a report generated. I like it... some customers may not... kevin phillips
i tested one monday it also got around 1.05 and it was boosting ok on road
DwayneGorniak
That's about the norm I get on the manual test I do. Sometimes a little higher. I still prefer the manual tests. I find the Air management test passes EGR valves too easily. I can make them fail alot more on a manual test.
DieselD
thats about normal, remember its only testing boost at idle. If I do the same thing manually I get the same result. I still think the best is to roadtest it at wot and monitor mgp.
Jim Warman
I still road test and measure MGP at WOT, I am usually looking for overboost. If the VGT mechanism isn't working correctly, we might still see 25ish PSI on a motor with concerns. The idle test is checking to see if the VGT is working and can go through it's full range as well as intake system integrity. Both tests, done together, can reveal quite a bit IMHO. Bruce Amacker
Hey Guys: The truck I did today only got 1.05psi. That truck was an '04. Today I did an '05 and got 3.01psi. The '05 also has 3 graphs (VGTDC, MGP, and EBPG) to the '04's 2 graphs (VGTDC and MGP).

Tony302600
Dwayne I hear you on that, i did the EGR test 3 times and it finally failed it and finally replaced and fixed the guys truck. Ive come to the realization you need to do that test 2-3 times.
