Keith Browning
Another topic started mentioning some of the fun pranks we pull on each other, thought I would dedicate a new topic to the subject. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif Guy next to you finishes up a major job, the bigger the better and the younger the tech the more fun it is... When he gets in the truck and starts it up, frantically start yelling "turn it off, turn it off!" Helps to be looking somewhere under the truck too. The look on their faces! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif Its quick and simple, I know, but it keeps you chuckling for hours. This works well with the freshly (and mischievously) spilled oil/coolant/ATF on the floor gag.
DwayneGorniak
Or as you pull the paddy wagon into the shop and another tech is walking by you lay on the siron. Bubble wrap under the wheels before they pull out of their bay is another good one. A seat belt pretensionser in their vise with alot of wire and a nine volt battery works well too just as they walk back into their bay. Oh yeah, you gotta keap an air horn in your tool box for those special occasions as well. These are the little things that make the day worthwile and non forgetable. Helps relieve tension after the shorts get scraped out.
Keith Browning
Helps relieve tension after the shorts get scraped out. I dunno, sounds like you have an arsenal that might make a guy tense just being around you! The bubble wrap is a good one, I actually got out of the truck the first time somebody got me, but it is a memorable sound. The second time I kept on backing out. Brad Clayton
A rag soaked in that stinky ass friction modifier under my tool box was my first initiation, back in the late 80's. Ford changed the formula, it doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as it did then.
Bruce Amacker
The bubble wrap is a good one, I actually got out of the truck the first time somebody got me, but it is a memorable sound. GregH
Back in the day we used to wrap a single strand of copper wire around both poles of someone's drop light plug. When they plugged it in, it would produce a nice pop... A bit on the edge of safety, of course...
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
I've always liked dropping the 5 ft pry bar behind the new techs the noise just about makes them mess themselves.
Alex Bruene
Too many of my co-workers look for the bubble wrap under the wheel... so I tape it to the top of the tire...
FordMastertech
How about waiting for the transmission guy to go wash up and before he comes back dump a quart of ATF under the car. Had one of the newbie techs replacing a leather seat cover and told him to go get the shop foreman's iron to remove the wrinkles. For awhile we all had to check the back side of our vehicles before going home. One tech put a sign on one of the other techs truck saying I LOVE *CENSORED*. He had a very interesting ride on the way home with every one blowing the horn and giving him the thumbs up. LOL FMT
Keith Browning
Just remembered a doozie! We hired a kid to do light stuff, oil changes, tires and so on. It was an experimental thing. He had a truck in his bay with a bad tire that had a pronounced bulge in the sidewall. One of the guys told him to go get a bag of ice and lay it against the tire to make the swelling go down before moving the truck. I couldn't believe my eyes when I actually saw a bag of ice next to the tire. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif ...only wish I had thought of it! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif
Jim Warman
Years ago, batteries would come "dry"... In the mid 70's I worked for a large Chev dealership. One particualr day, we had some kind of a run on batteries and, rather than have several of us waiting around to fill or batteries, an apprentice was given the job of filling any and all batteries..... After he'd filled about 5 or so, I walked over and watched him fill a attery.... "OH, NO!!!! Did you fill hem all like that?". "How do you mean?". "Your filling them from positive to negative - they'll be charged backwards!!!". His face blanched and he immediately ran to the SMs office to beg forgiveness.... Breaker point igntio was always a favourite... charge a condenser and lob it to anyone unsuspecting.... In winter, we can always expect the odd snowball (I have strategically parked one of the IDS carts close to my bay because of this). One techs favourite ploy is to make TWO snowballs.... the first gets lobbed at the intended victim. While he is busy concentrating on that one, the other comes lightning fast in a straight line. Due to the events of previous years (we, thankfully, didn't have a third annual "run for your life event"), anything that generates a loud noise is strictly verboten... Tony302600
How bout to the newbies " can you get me a metric adjustable wrench" I throw snowballs above the techs toolbox against the wall so it explodes everywhere on top his box. fluids under the trucks is awesome. We have a smartass service writer, but 13oz of wheel weights on the insides of all his tires fixed that.
Tony302600
For awhile we all had to check the back side of our vehicles before going home. One tech put a sign on one of the other techs truck saying I LOVE BLACK COCK.FMT One of the techs had this sticker slapped on his bumper " I dont even think straight " with a rainbow on it, and for a month he said he was getting waved at by girls and guys randomly. DieselD
I have an air gun that fits the little caps from fuel lines and pumps perfect. I can fire one of those accross the shop and hit my mark. At close range it can leave welts but not hard enough to really hurt or put and eye out.
eastendpowerstroke
A puddle of brake cleaner under a foam coffee cup will melt the bottom out of it and with a little finesse you can get it to hold until its touched at that point the bottom just falls out.. I have a little 120v flasher that you place under a light bulb in a drop light..on.........off.............on.........off.. add a few stray bolts into a guys box or tray of hardware during a big job and wait till he's standing there trying to figure out where they go.. if he's an asshole take some away!! take some epoxy and glue a quarter to the floor.. put antiseize inside some blue rubber gloves and put them back in the box... I'll think of some more ...stay tuned
DwayneGorniak
Black grease on your Shop Foremans, or Service managers ear piece of their phones is a good one too. I also like to pull the bottom drawer out of the Service Mangers filing cabinet and open a couple cans of sardines and put them on the floor below the cabinet. It takes them forever to find the stench. It is alot of fun, as long as they have a good sense of humour.
OHNO60
WE HAD A GUY THAT LIKED TO CUT BOLTS OFF WITH A TORCH AND ASK THE NEW GUYS TO "CAN YOU HOLD THIS FOR ME"

SteveS
We had a dispatcher that was a 2 finger hunt & peck typist, couldn't remember where any of the keys were without looking. One of the guys swapped all the keys around. Somebody installed Brittney/Madonna in "The Kiss" as his wall paper. He had it for a few months because he didn't know how to change it. Keith Browning
That is not the kind of screwing with coworkers I meant /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif but since you mentioned it, Mrs. FordDoctor was the Warranty Administrator in my store until we got married and had young-uns! I guess you could say I screwed myself out of a paycheck but what we got in return is priceless! ...ever notice that anti-seize is like mustard? One little drop and it seems to get everywhere! cworley
I happened to see a couple guys in the used car Dept. programming a remote on a mustang. When they finally got it done, my remote in my pocket just happened to get programmed, too. You probably can just imagine the fun I had with them!!
Keith Browning
THAT is a fun one! I have a few remotes in my box for testing and I happened to catch a guy behind me programming remotes and thought of doing this just in time. He reprogrammed the remotes three times and could not figure out why the panic alarm kept off and the doors would lock him out. I could not contain myself and was caught laughing my ass off with tears in my eyes.
