snw blue by you
Is there a way to access windows for maintainence ops, just like a normal computer. We just got ours working again with a new battery, and it occured to me that this thing has got to have almost 8 years of crap on it's hard drive. Is there any reason I can't access this stuff, I mean I clean and defrag drives on the rest of the diag tools, I even installed a registry cleaner on IDS, and the thing works better than it ever did before. Thanks for any help, I'm trying to give the shop another working option so the IDS is freed up for me, there is nothing worse than a quick lube guy programing a key when I need IDS, and I'm not about to surrender my personal NGS. Thanks again.
Keith Browning
Try a WINDOWS keyboard and hit the key with the Windows logo on it. This will bring up the start menu. Worked for me. You can identify a Windows keyboard by locating the key with the windows logo. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif I know that seems obvious but for some reason I thought it was necessary to... you know. Keith Browning
Also, if you use an older keyboard that doesn't have a Windows button, press the "Ctrl" & "Esc" buttons simultaneously to make the windows start menu appear.

DieselD
Im surprised yours still works. ours has pretty much been dead and tossed in the corner now. I do know the feeling of not enough IDS setups tho
Keith Browning
I'm surprised yours still works. ours has pretty much been dead and tossed in the corner now. Sadly, ours is too with a broken dock latch handle. It still makes a good tester even without the module programming. We decided it wasn't worth the money to fix. snw blue by you
Ours was dead as well, it would start up and immediately crash, didn't even have to undock it. As well our docking handle is screwed, you have to hold it up to remove the unit, one day I will take it apart and see what broke and if I can repair it. All it needed was a new battery pack and a conditioning. when that was done I performed all the normal windows maint. on it and it has stopped crashing. Also when I have a chance I may look into replacing the memory stick as 32MB is a joke, no wonder the damn thing was always so slow. For the last week it has performed very well and is proving to be a time saver as a backup diagnostic tool.
