  1. We got three IDS' in today. The lap top was smaller than I expected.
  2. OK..getting back on track. Seeing 7.3 with over 200k miles is not uncommon. We are lucky to live in a society where we can afford(most people) a new vehicle every 6 years. That said, I don't think people would keep a vehicle that long. Look at the redesign rate on cars and trucks. Cars used to get updated/redesigned every 5 years, now the cycle is 3 years and expected to drop even further. Trucks were on a 10 year cycle, now we are looking at 5 years. Working at a dealership,we don't see too many vehicles with over 200k miles.
  3. 6.0s can't even make it out of warranty. Much less 200k miles. Ford has a BIG problem on their hands. Chevy will pass Ford in truck sales by the end of '07. I predict.
  4. I did a PCM reflash(05E15) on a 2005 today and the EBP pid was still there.
  5. We use the GR1-190. Takes about 45min. on a good day.
  6. I would imagine, that any warranty claims on the 9J460s will be kicked back now?
  7. Good luck........we had a tech quit because he was so fed up with the Sick Os.
  8. What really sucks is, you do the recall then the lube guy gets it and fills it to the brim.
  9. You and I both know it should not be covered. But, the customer will argue that it should not have corroded. No? The oil pressure light probably came on 10 miles ago....hence the term "idiot light"!
  10. Do you have trouble removing the turbo exhaust side clamps? After loosening the nuts, try spraying the clamp with the Ford combustion chamber cleaner. Within 3 min. you will hear a 'clink' and the clamp will be loose. Really. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  11. Use a torch to heat up the bolt. It is very important to use a "like new" 10mm socket. I have one reserved just for this purpose.
  12. I can't believe all the effort people put into "saving" their engines. Engine failures due to lubrication(when properly maintained) concerns are very rare. If it were me, I'd be focusing on the transmission.
  13. The prices on the kits are $1,270.00 Not too many techs "know" how to overhaul a motor anymore. I don't see this as being cost effective. You still have to send the motor out to be bored. Tech's lift will be tied up for a week-unless they want to take the time to play musical cars with their lifts.
  14. I have installed a few of these. The VGT ring has an extra groove machined in it to prevent sticking.
  15. Acts like an injector leaking oil. As Ford Doctor said, do the air leak test. You can listen for air leaks through the oil filler cap or the crankcase vent hose on the left valve cover.
  16. I know the Sick Os are prewired (for PTOs) for this.Do you think the 4.5 might be also?
  17. Ford is lacking on product lines. We don't have any small cars like the Aveo, the Ranger is getting long in the tooth. Chrysler came out with the 300, Ford came out with the 500. 300 out sells the 500 by a huge margin. I wonder why? What gets me is, styling does not cost any extra. Oh, look at the '06 Explorer inside door pull handle. In all the magazine pre-production write ups, the biggest complaint was the inside door handle. Well guess what makes it to production? Ford is riding on two vehicles right now-the Mustang and the F150. Ford is way late on the Crossover SUV craze. The Sick O is the biggest automotive blunder in the 21st Century. Ok, I'll get off my soap box.
  18. They probably had the sensor wires too close to the exhaust Y pipe.
  19. P2614 and P2617 relate to the crank sensor. I've seen a few Sick-Os with the same complaint you mentioned. Replacing the crank sensor(left side of engine) corrected the concern.
  20. I agree, the IDS has too many "loose" pieces. Guys in our shop refuse to latch down the WDS when they dock it. The trend with Ford is to make their diagnostic tool obsolete after 5 years. I have an NGS sitting idle in my tool box.
  21. Like it really matters.Management will over-ride your findings anyway.
  22. Kinda like recalls, we find out on the 10 oclock news. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
