  1. Thanks. You didn't really make it seem like a nightmare, just made it seem like it was going to be par for the course for anything with a 6.0L /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  2. Just got an E450 with lack of power and it had overheated. Went out to start it up and it was locked up. Noticed an oil leak around the remote filter cap. Pulled it off and saw the standpipe melted. The plastic and the end of the dipstick was melted too. This thing must of gotten very very hot. Anyway, during the prior approval process I am being asked to send Ford some pictures of the standpipe. I remember seeing a post from the Ford Doctor ranting about his bad experience with sending in pictures. So I'm just looking for any advice on sending the pictures as well as anything else I may need to photograph or send. Just trying to make this process as smooth as possible.
  3. I assumed it meant after market? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  4. Thanks. I still use mine on a semi-regular basis. Ebay sounds like a good idea.
  5. What are you guys using to test headgaskets? I know the tsb says to use a tee fitting with cooling system pressure tester but my cooling system tester has a radiator adaptor on the end and I don't particularly want to butcher it up. I bought some tee fittings from the local hardware store and was wondering if a regular pressure gauge may work or should I just buy another cooling system tester?
  6. Anyone else hearing mumblings or rumors about Ford getting in on this from their Field Reps?? I haven't personally but there are some rumors on Ford's message boards about it.
  7. Thanks guys but I think I found it. I remembered I had a little problem with the right side #2 body mount. Checked it today and sure enought the bottom half of the mount was seized up in the top half. When installing I got it cocked a little while trying to install it past the leaf spring shackle bolt. I thought it was ok but i guess not. Really kicking my own ass now. Guess I'm still just a newbie.
  8. Yes I put the EVA on it this morning and it says I have a first order engine vibration. I'm currently searching for things that may have grounded out against the body. It's driving me crazy. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  9. I just did a cab off engine replacement on a 2003 6.0L. Installed a 6007. Crank the motor and it runs fine, no problems noticed while I finish installing interior. When I get into the truck to test drive it I notice a vibration that feels like a misfire. No misfires on powerbalance and vibration is still present with accessory drive belt removed, engine oil level is not too high( hotline said that would cause vibration), unhooked downpipe from truck to see if it would make a difference. Nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I go back to work tomorrow and pull the transmission to check flywheel. Grasping at straws here. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  10. Thanks. It looks like I'm going to get very effiecient on doing these as I'm finishing one up and have another one coming up next week.
  11. Ok I've got you now. Thanks for the reply. Our other diesel tech and I are currently using wooden blocks under the pinch weld. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif Just looking for a better way.
  12. Just did one last week. Just beginning to learn to do transmissions and I still didn't screw it up. Works great /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  13. FordDoctor could you give me a little more info on how you secure the cabs to the lift. I've seen you picture but what about cabs with running boards.
  14. I have one in my bay now pistons number cylinders 2,3,and 5 burned. Cylinder 8 was just starting to burn. Cylinder 2 is the worst with the swirl chamber eroded so severely it is oblong and one of the valves burned. Now this thing just had a turbo and injectors number 2 and 6 replaced up in jersey less than a week before I received it. When I got it the turbine wheel was sheared off of the "new" turbo. Replaced the turbo and the truck had a slight miss off idle. Then the truck proceeds to run away for about 15 seconds, so that made further diag a little risky in my opinion. I was just wondering what the hell happened and if there was anything else I should check other than turbo boost and fuel psi when I put the new long block in it.
  15. I don't think Ford could post two labor ops without some sort of way police claims. Otherwise we'd all say that we pulled the engine to get the larger amount of time. Knowing Ford they'll probably just say you have to get the facilities you need in order to lift cabs if your dealer wants to work on\sale Superduties.
  16. Thats great! It would be really helpful to get our hands on these kits when the 6.0L goes CP. I wonder if Ford would pay us as you said? Maybe they could pad the SLTS with the money they save.
  17. It makes me feel a little better to see a lot of quality techs fell into the same trap I did. I come out of FACT with 3 weeks of 7.3 training and got the "hey you're diesel certified, we've gotta busted 6.0L for ya" screw job. Boy that was a struggle. I know how hard it was to work on this engine but, as with most things it gets easier with practice. Even though Ford did a lot wrong with the release of this engine, I believe they deserve a certain amount of credit for pushing the envelope. I feel this engine really is revolutionary. I think the 6.4L will be an awesome engine and the release can't go much worse than the 6.0l /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  18. What year is it? If its a 2005 it could be the quick disconnect fitting. There's a tsb or ssm out for it causing intermittant no start.
  19. Greg's method works great, used that myself more than a few times.
