Keith did you ever find any good words on that subject???? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

oh and new trucks have EATC that works in the inside, lol.

Helm publishes the manuals for FMC. You could call them and own your very own wiring diagram. Im sure it will be of good use to you and will save you from having to take the truck to the dealership. If you look in your owners manual there is most likely a number for helm. If you have purchased access to motor alldata or fords site you will be able to get them there also. Good Luck.

The plugged egr cooler test?
jaysonfordtech replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
BG does make a kit for cleaning the intake/egr system on the 6.0. I have heard it works well, but it is very expensive and time consuming. I personally shy away from the snake oil for the most part. -
And besides that, what would they do with the giant pile of old pot and pans and spring steel that they make the current head bolts out of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk2.gif .

Bio powered jet...
jaysonfordtech replied to LARRY BRUDZYNSKI's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
I have visions of delaminated fuel tanks at 30k feet /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/surprise.gif. Tow trucks are hard to find in that area, lol. -
Holy crap that thing was hard. Now I admit I am not the smartest guy out there, and far from the world’s best tech but damn! Have any of you guys taken this thing? Do they even offer it to the red headed step children up north? I let some of the kids take the practice test, and also let my service manager take it. The service manager scored better than the 2 tech school kids, lol.

Performance Device Evidence
jaysonfordtech replied to Keith Browning's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
Just warms my heart, lol. -
So we have been hearing about guys doing bedplates in chassis. Have any of you guys tried this, and what do you think? I would be afraid of not getting the torque correct on the bedplate but that is just me.

"Speaking of which, our fleet rep. was mentioning to me the other day that they were going to get some hydrogen powered Econoline busses to use as a trial... has anybody heard of this, or is it just steam?" Nope its for real. They have been playing with internal combustion Hyrdogen power for a while now. They have used them for like airport shuttles and such. You will have to let us know when or if it happens and what kind of technology they are using.

6.0 egr cooler bypass kit
jaysonfordtech replied to jbarnett31's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Would head gasket failure due to excessive boost count? How about over heated and failed egr coolers due to overboost and over temp conditions. How about repeat egr valve failures due to massive carbon buildup due to over fueling. Drivability concerns due to aftermarket air filter setup having the maf in a different spot causing incorrect reading? I can go on if you would like. I have not seen any banks kits installed on customers 6.0 trucks, I suspect they are more expensive then the other brands. -
6.0 egr cooler bypass kit
jaysonfordtech replied to jbarnett31's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I was going to ask the same question. I had a friend who worked for Kia years ago and told me it took months for them to get service fix calibrations out to the US dealers due to the regulation and cost involved in certifing them. -
6.0 egr cooler bypass kit
jaysonfordtech replied to jbarnett31's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
No, I did not miss the last few pages, I just wanted to bring up the fact that although you may not see smoke, there are other emissions that WILL be increased. The smoke is just PM, there is also the usual CO, HC's and Nox to think about not to mention CO2 that my home state will be regulating here in a few years if they get their way. If you disable the egr system you WILL increase the NOX outside of the legal limits. If they could get these things to pass without EGR or with less flow you better bet your a** they would. If they could get more power with minimal additional cost and still meet the emission standards and keep the level of durability they expect why wouldn't they? -
6.0 egr cooler bypass kit
jaysonfordtech replied to jbarnett31's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
On the topic of emissions, if I am not mistaken the egr system in an oil burner also performs the same duty as one in a gas motor, reduction of Nox, correct? Wouldn't restricting or stopping egr operation increase nox emissions? Is it not the Nox and PM regulations that made ford and IH produce the 6.0 and now the 6.4? -
I have used one for years. I would not live without it! I also needed to overhaul the cushion due to use, one warranty return leather seat back cover, one seat bottom cushion also a warranty return, and a pile of hogrings and you have one deluxe topside creeper. The use of pipe foam is needed to protect the truck from damage however.

A growler, isn't that what you old guys are????? lol. I have never actually seen a growler, but have been told the stories by the granddads of the shop about using a hacksaw blade to test with. I have only been doing this about 10 years and feel old next to the 19 year old kid next to me.

injector damage from fuel restriction
jaysonfordtech replied to jaysonfordtech's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Im not sure I have a delam issue, I am sure I have a restriction. I have seen the screens in the pickup tube plug before, I p/a'd tank, p/u tube, pump, filter and updated vent. I alway try to give a worst case p/a until I get the tank out so the writer can let the customer know that it could be xxx amount but it may be less depending on what we find. BTW this is a 00 f450 with 205k miles on it. Thanks guys -
damn, I do 2 or 3 in a day sometimes. The work sold on the recalls is slim however. Our advisors staple an oasis report to the ro on EVERY ro. If they don't see it we do. I had not seen many 7.3's for a long time, now they come out of the woodwork for the free stuff.

Motorcraft Full Synthetic Diesel Oil
jaysonfordtech replied to Keith Browning's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
Wow, I really do not see my advisor being able to sell that one! That is 72 bucks in oil COST. I think we charge about 80 bucks for a diesel oil change retail. But then again a fool and his money soon part ways. -
06E17 (Inferred EBP) Diagnostics
jaysonfordtech replied to Bruce Amacker's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The only pids other than the ones listed by dwayne I can think of that I use is IAT2 and maf to help to verify egr flow. -
Intermittent White Smoke
jaysonfordtech replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have had that complaint, but never been able to verify it. I run codes all ok and have to NPF it. -
T2 and T6 are not bad. I only work in the light duty world f150-550. I got the study guides for t2 and t6 and passed with ease, but it did make me try to remember all the crap I learned about heavy trucks while at UTI. To be honest the L2 was the only ASE I have ever walked out of wondering if I passed. At the time I took it no company produced study guides. I remember a bunch of crap on fuel systems that I had not laid eyes after leaving UTI in 1998. Some of the crap was so outdated, I expected to see some questions on 2 stroke detroit motors! I ended up passing with like 88%. I would just get the study guides for all three tests, and you should be fine. Also be ready to look at wiring diagrams that are much different than the ford ones we are use to.

Internet Speed Test
jaysonfordtech replied to Keith Browning's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
No, my time is spent with microeconomics and financial accounting this quarter. I don't have a home phone, only cell phones, so it is about the same price for dsl or cable. I do use the internet to take some of my classes however, so a fast reliable connection is very important. Nothing sucks worse than a connection drop in the middle of a final!
