  1. Since Ford wants us to reuse the center support fluid feed bolts, what are we supposed to be using as thread sealant to replace the sealant that comes off during assembly??? I started cleaning the threads and neatly applying Teflon tape to them. Somebody stop me if that is bad or you know a better sealant that wont run or cause problems!

  3. I have done two with both the injector and engine sensor harnesses and three with just the injector harness. I have not been told to replace any sensors by the hotline but if I see a problem other than a potential wiring failure I correct that first. Yes the sensor harness sucks to do especially the CKP!!! Do you remove the AC compressor or do you just try to snake it in there cause thats tight. I have trouble fishing the connector through and I really try to avoid removing the compressor because I hate doing that too! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
  4. I saw an injector come out of a 6L one of the other guys is working on that looked like that but it was more carbon than anything. It looks like the injector pictured on this site somewhere. It made a complete mess of the head which had to come out to replace the sleeve. Better him than me! The copper seal was completely gone and the tips of the injector and glowplug were melted. The truck was knocking and missing on the entire bank #2.
  5. So fellas, it seems that the recalled units that are "affected" are the ones most likely to fail. Somebody asked me what makes the trucks with the snow plow prep package different and I assumed that there might be different internal parts but I am not sure. I know that the internals are different depending on the engine the truck is built with or at least all other Ford tyranny's have been. This just gets deeper and deeper don't it?!?! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

  7. In the last year I have seen quite a few 5.4L trucks with low power and codes P0171 and P0174. All of them except one had bad fuel pumps. I know that there was a TSB or SSM back a couple of years about the pick up screen being too fine and clogging. A lot of these trucks also had water problems with custom bodies that had the wrong sized fuel filler vent hoses. Water and dirt would whip up from the rear tire and enter the tank at the loose hose near the filler cap.
  8. Where are you guys seeing a lot of oil leaks??? I see a lot of 6-0's with wet bell housings but the customer's aren't complaining! I generally keep my mouth shut unless it's a bad leak or something obvious. I am starting to see more and more glow plug harness leak issues but I suspect a lot are leaking from the block.
  9. How did you write it up? Just the diag alone can get you close to an hour. Did you do the obligatory re-flash? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif ...not to start anything but just mentioning a re-flash can sometimes cause a riot! he he he
  10. That's a pretty interesting take on the issue of labor vs. management. Maybe it's time for someone to step-up or management needs to be willing to pay one or two guys in the shop a salary to do all the transmissions and troublshooting? I know of a few guys that have that agreement. as long as everyone is happy with the terms it seems to work. I don't know how many shops are willing to do that though. I do know that flat rate is not doing well by many techs or dealers anymore as for many just keeping a shop busy all day is a challenge.

  12. You are kidding me? I pull the trans out to change that pipe.
  13. Four got towed in with holes in the cases after that last snowstorm here in the east. cool article and pictures thats exactly what they look like. We got into two of them and the snap rings were half out of the case with a hole in the exact same spot. I hope nobody needs a case anytime soon, they are on backorder!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif saw that coming a mile away.

  15. Anybody doing these recalls yet? Our customers are not exactly rushing to get theirs done. I thought that Ford was sending out letters in the middle of this month? We had a 2005 towed in with no reverse but it is not in the recall so I guess I'll find out what happened when we get it out and apart.

  17. You aint kiddin! Supposedly there are a whole bunch of new super parts depots and big warehouses I don't think they have all the bugs worked out of the system yet. I think every month there is a new code they invent to keep us busy while they ship the parts. B29, X11, 123AB see it next week! I waste a lot of time pushing trucks back out the door so they dont tie up my lift
