  1. And just as much fun as diagnosing a set of bad diesel injectors. Had one today but a 2006. Wont hold pressure to pass a leak down test so reletive flow test cant be done. Power balance shows three misfiring. Replace them, three more show up. replaced them too. You know what happend next dontcha? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  2. So it's not too far fetched to see an overoiled K&N foul up a MAF? Hmmmm, food for thought. Okay. What about excessive turbo flutter? Couldn't that send crankcase vent vapours back out and through the MAF fouling it too? I have heard of cleaning the sensor but you have to use something that won't leave a residue. I know that much! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  3. Alrightee then. Got it apart with help from another guy, we ended up crushing a large can of PVC cement that was wedged under the seat back jamming the whole deal. Son of a... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif I know I shouldn't but I feel like a dumb-ass!
  4. HELP! 2000 Ex with the folding second row seats. I can't get the left seat to unlatch and raise back into the upright position. I'm getting pissed!!! I ran OASIS thinking that once upon a time there was something on this but I got nothing from Ford. All of the cables and linkages appear to be working and I don't see any foreign objects. Anybody have an idea or suggestion? HELP!!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif I'm losing my mind!!!
  5. Cylinders 7,6 & 8 not contributing at first start, 7 comes back first and about 5 minutes later 6 & 8 start hitting. Then smoothes out but 8 shows low under a load untill really hot. Load = 87% MF-DES = 31Mg Two things here are that the idle smoothes out before any advanced diagnostics can be performed and now I know why I stopped wasting time with the enhanced injector interrupt test. The interrupt cancels when I toggle to the PID monitor screen to record MF_DES. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  6. No, our customers hear about recalls on the 10 oclock news. THEY tell us the next day and the phones just ring and ring and ring. Once again caught with our thumbs in our asses looking dumbfounded and clueless. Don't you love trying to answer questions you don't have any answers for? Aren't we supposed to be "the experts"??? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif Log onto the internet. At least you'll know what's what they are talking about since it seems avery damn owner owns a computer too! Now to constructively add to the thread /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif I think someone here mentioned that engineering was looking at cab removal for servicing. I think this might be the reason we haven't heard an official statement from Ford telling us not to raise cabs or that they do not endorse the practice.
  7. No hole in the screen but I have seen one with some strange debris all over it. That truck had a HPOP failure that put the debris there but ran fine afterward. Now, the IPR just bleeds off pressure in the system right? So if that is true then wouldn't there be additional debris that would likely end up in the injectors too? Or the check valves?? I just think it's odd that I never seem to have any injector issues after a pump failure... or is it just me? Am I lucky? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  8. I am seenig a lot of hullaballoo about injector failures and fuel. Low fuel pressure and quality being the main part of the discussions I see on other boards. I have an 05 that is dropping 3 cylinders for the first 5 minutes after starting cold. The only thing I have to go on right now is that the fuel pressure is at 45 or just above when cold. That alone should not cause a problem but I honestly think I have about three injectors falling out of the game and I have nothing other than a power balance display to go by. Two in one bank and one on the other. Now that the fuel gagew is on tghe truck, I am parkin it out side to check L A T E R!
  9. Do you mean PAINTED purple or an over heated unit with a purple torque converter? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
  10. Still an issue? I have a dually in - 2005 with the old drivelin shudder from a stop. Now I have tried the TSB for shimming the hanger bearing up or down but that only changed WHEN the vibration would occur. (in my opinion) I have fixed these with a new driveshaft or by reducing the looseness of the hanger bearing bushing. Anybody still seeing this problem and what are you doing to fix it, AND I MEAN FIX IT. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif
  11. I dont know about the rest of you but I am sure that you use one or more forum or message board I do recognize some of the names here. Doc you seem to be everywhre! Anyway I cant beleive the amount of garbage posts that are trashing the internet lately. The negativity, bashing and the "my mods are better than yours" gangs and the same stupid questions being posted over and over and over and over and over! On the flip side its been real quiet around here. Did everyone lose their minds or is December just a really freaky time of year for the internet? Killing time just isnt as much fun or interesting as it used to be. Maybe it's time for a new hobby... like co-ed naked drinking!
  12. Has anybody noticed that in all of the ads and promotions concerning aftermarket "performance" air filters not one chart, or comparison even mentions the stock Donaldson filter? Am I wrong or miss one? I haven't seen one and I was just wondering if any of you have seen one that does. I think that's pretty interesting!
  13. Just a word to the wise - I have been seeing a few of these Super Duty speedo problems, they bounce wildly or go up to 20 MPH and stuck there or peg. SSM#5165 shows a concern with 2006 trucks built before 6/15/05 but I have one built 8/26/05 doing this. Have also seen a 2005 do this.I think this is different than SSM# 5166 dealing with Coil on plug trucks (gassers) which are also having problems. My point is to do some research and run oasis if you have one of these. It always seems to be the cluster!
  14. Doc I got a chuckle today after flashing a module and it DOES say "if required" so are we to ASSUME that ford doesn't expect us to put one on when we flash a module?
  15. Hey Sarge? Did you get this truck running and what was the outcome??? And for that matter, what happened to the other dude in Iraq with the 4 trucks using JP-8 fuel?
  16. You must be joking if you think they are going to do anything like that! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rofl.gif It's a nice idea but I'll bet my next paycheck that Ford leaves us scratching our asses again and they have already convinced themselves that this engine is going to be perfect But just in case I had better retake the brake course just in case I get to do a brake job again some day! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif
  17. Did this engine use oil before the new injectors as well? A cut lower oil seal will cause oil to leak into the fuel causing that black-fuel syndrome.
  18. You can ignore the P1334 for now. That is a code for the EGR throttle plate and it is possibly a false code depending on the current calibration of the PCM. Well wait. If it's stuck closed the truck might not start due to a lack of air. You can remove the CAC tube from the intake and observe the throttle plate while someone cycles the ignition. The plate should sweep closed and then back open if I recall correctly. The second code is also likely to be a false code. It's defined as camshaft position sensor output circuit it usually is set with a P2617 for the crank sensor. These codes are commonly set during a stalling event. I believe that even the manual advises correcting other concerns first before diagnosing these codes. Did you move the engine and FICM harnesses around to eliminate any possible short circuits? And yes, it's normal for some wetness around the CAC tube connector hoses. You can snug them up a little but too much force on the clamps has proven to cause problems as well. The last thing you guys need is a CAC tube blowing off during an attack or an emergency!
  19. Sarge, You will find the PCM bolted to the left inner fender behind the left battery. The battery cover hides most of the module so you may need to remove it. If you know what a ford part/engineering number looks like the basic number (in the middle) is 12a650. I would check the wiring harness for shorts on top of the engine near the FICM bolted to the left valve cover. Also, try unplugging the engine cooling fan.
  20. I am not sure what the rule is or whether it has to do with any laws but I don't bother with them anymore. Like Jim stated, WE know what's been done to the vehicle just by looking at our databases like OASIS and vehicle history. As far as anybody else concerned, who cares? On some trucks, the entire underside of the hood would be covered with them!
  21. All I have heard for rumors is that its a 6.0 bottom with a new top end. Common rail injection, dual turbo set up and some exhaust scrubbing equipment what ever the heck that means Have no "facts" My expectations are that its going to be even tighter than the 6.0L I expect more power and better reliability I hope to see them only for servicing
  22. 23. Sounds like a normal week for me. Sometimes I think the word diesel makes some service writers stupid-up real quick. "Okay sir, it's a diesel Super Duty? And it's doing what..." as their eyes glaze over while they can't type fast enough to get the guy out of their face. This probably why I constanly have them call the customer back so I can figure out what the REAL complaint is. Sometimes I get the feelin that my job is based on what others don't want to do.
  24. How about a noisy HPOP? Yep. Strangest freakin noise I have come across yet and hard to figure out. At least I didn't have to throw a lot of parts at this truck to figure it out. This pump was making a low pitched whining noise that was really loud and changed with th engine speed. I could make it change a little by commanding ICP up and down with WDS. Heres some advice for engine noise hunting if you use a stethoscope, take the tip off of the hose and stick the end up the back of the engine between the rear cover and the heat shield bolted to the pump cover. If the pump is bad the noise will be loudest there.
