?exhaust leak=no boost?
Brad Clayton replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I removed the map line and blew air thru it. Then "T"ed in a fitting and drove with gage to compare to mgp pid. They both read the same number at about 5 psi. I also ran a coat hanger down the fitting in the intake to check for junk in it. It was as clean as could be given the condition of the vehicle. Interesting thoughts on the cat. I thought about it to but its been voided for some time now, from what the customer is telling me. I had to order the y-pipe today. So Thursday I will get the exhaust sealed up and recheck to see where it stands. To be honest, I don't think the engine is making enough heat energy to even turn the turbo. Just seems like it's not fueling or derating or something. -

Smoked the intake system and used 20 psi of pressure on top of that and it held up flawlessly. Removed cold side cac and looked in and no more than the normal oil carry over was in there. Oil level is right on spot. Used the short stick method to check. -
nothing but service work on them here

?exhaust leak=no boost?

I removed the cat and guess what, somebody punched out the guts. So basically she is straight piped with a turn down after the axle. I even took the down pipe off looking for any old turbo parts. A golf ball runs straight thru. Quote: Will the engine free rev to 3,800 RPM in PARK at WOT? It's funny you should mention this, she revs good so good you swear the thing is gonna run away. I was slowly running the engine up yesterday and when you get to about 2000 rpm it will keep climbing without anymore throttle angle and I was having to actually back off the throttle quite a bit to keep it around 2500 rpms. Not sure what to think about that. This truck is not well maintained and has over 4000 hours on it. But the oil looks good and is not overfull. Althought it takes a bit to build base oil pressure. I wonder if I may be dealing with a whole bunch of crap that has come together as one mighty foe. I'm usually all over these things within an hour of getting the ticket, but this one has givin me a run. I'm probably staring the problem in the face and avoiding it. I will get a fresh look at it today and let you guys know. -

Yeah I got a P2263, so I took off down the KA highway. I do have a solenoid and I put it in to no avail. -

More like cock knockers! I've been all over this thing and gotten nowhere. VGT learns perfectly. Plenty of fuel pressure and volume. Replaced leaking ICP and connector. Smoked intake, ok. Smoked exhaust and found some leaks at rear of turbo on the intake cross over. Has brand new turbo on it from another dealer. Checked throttle plate to make sure it was open and someone removed it. Performed KA and it leads back to exhaust leak. I just was thinking it would have to be one hell of a leak to only get 3 to 5 psi. But who knows. I am going to reseal the manifolds and get the y-pipe out tomorrow and get a better look at it. -
If you had an exhaust leak on a '03 six liter, how bad do you think it would have to be to only make 5 psi of boost?

injector interupt enhanced diag sheet
Brad Clayton replied to robp823's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
It's in the PCED manuals. Just look up the year your working on and go to diagnostic routines section, both hard start and performance sections are there, if online print them out, if using a paper manual, photocopy. -
You're going to my old neck of the woods. I lived in Anderson exit 19 on I-85.

Yeah, don't ever sell your tools!!!!!!!!

It sucks to loose another good tech in the industry, but Ford has brought this on themselves. And I don't want to see anyone held back if there is something better out there.

I've "rebuilt" a many of the ol ccrm's. The fuel pump relay output solder trace in the circuit board was bad about burning into, down in the hot states. I would jump the two points out with a piece of 16 gage wire and viola, a perfectly good module for friends or family or as a tester. Did the same thing for the old air bag monitors that would blow the internal fuse in an accident rendering the module useless. Installed a fuse holder and taped it to the outside making another known good tester.

Lots of money to made in the trucking industry, lot of headaches also. I hope it goes well for you. I have often thought of making that switch but I like to sleep too much. My dad retired from driving a big rig after some 30 years or so, he had a million mile safety award to boot. Well I hope you don't miss the dealer life too much and make a rebound and keep 'er rubber side down.

Same here, Connecticut Warehouse for us. -
I know alot of the guys at our local toyota store and it was explained to me that yota was going above and beyond with the labor time so techs would want to do the job and do it correctly. I saw the instructions they sent with the kit and it's like 30 pages long with torque specs for every single bolt.

That's what I'm talkin' bout. I wonder if Toyota could sublet them to our dealer.

I've been noticing on a lot of the new cars being PDI'd that they have gone back to an overflow style radiator and done away with the degas system. -
Anyone heard about the new Taco recall for rusted frames? This time around there not buying the trucks back. Instead they are having the dealers replace the frame assy. You get a frame, all brake lines, fuel lines, control arms, proportioning valve, and some other new stuff. And the labor time..... 60 frickin hours !!! I would do every one I could get my hands on if I were a Yota tech.

I just did one of these and after the trifecta, I put an updated cap on it. Anyone got one of these yet? This thing is seriously beefed up. -

I think went it hits page 10, you ought to put the 'ol lock on it. -
Nice We use to start rumors intentionaly to see how fast it would get back to the originator. Sometimes it would come back in less than 10 minutes. Amazing how some people are.

Quote: - Day 4: 3 or 4 guys are walking around the shop in a comatose like state - caused by ERO addiction withdrawal. They can no longer scan every vehicle tag in the shop to see what every other tech is working on to feed the rumour mill. They would have to see the 1 tower operator and he isn`t playing... You have hit the nail right on the head with that one!

Anybody heard what kinda fuel pressure these things are gonna run?

It amazes me how much information can be lost from the customer to the service advisor to the RO to the tech. I have been thinking about calling all of my customers that aren't waiters, with the following scenario just to see what they really came in for and compare it to whats written on the RO. "Good morning Mr. Smith, we are performing a quality control check on our dealership guidlines. I see you dropped your vehicle off this morning. To help us achieve the highest quality work standard possible on your visit today, may I ask the nature of your service and or concern with your vehicle?" I would probably be floored by the inconsistencys between the customers comments and what actually made it onto print. But this is every where nowadays. I went to eat tonight and ordered a cheeseburger club. The waitress came back over and asked me if I wanted cheese on it. Uhhhhhh........hmmmmmm, well yea I want a CHEESEburger club. Then she says it normally doesn't come with cheese on it. Well I guess that would be a hamburger club uh? So I ended up ordering a hambuger club and asked for cheese on it as well. I had to because her brain started to lock up and I figured it was the only way I would get my meal.
