  1. If you can contort your wrist like a triple swivel spark plug socket then ok, if not do it from the bottom. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  2. There is a topic over on the boards about this with 100 replies and they are 50/50 on it, some winning some losing. I have done them from the top and the bottom and beat time on both ends. The best way is from the bottom, following the instructions but I take the bell housing bolt out that retains the fuel line bracket and you can get a fat hand in no problem after that. Doing it that way it can be done in less than 15 minutes.
  3. I heard of a bumper sticker on an Expedition out West somewheres that read: "honk if you see my spark plugs fall out" Humerous in a techy way.
  4. Thankfully, Ford redesigned these so replacement of the part became easy as doing a clutch. Back in the olden days you had to open up the whole trans and get the housing off to get to the ol girl which was held in with an "o"-ring.
  5. Quote: they lived, minor scratches. the driver had no seat belt on and was able to slide across the seat when the cab came down. Looks like this could be one hell of a piece of propoganda for oponents of seat belt laws. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
  6. Aahhhh 'ol fuse #74. I can't wait to see Ford try to boot leg your pictures now. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  7. I've come across quite a few bad inertia switches on these, which is weird to think about considering how long they have been around on gassers with very few problems (late '80's Escort excluded from that statement). Anyone looked at an '09 Flex yet? No inertia switch in this vehicle!!!! It gets a fuel energize command from the RCM module, what will they change next? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  8. Dude, I hope the occupants survived that ordeal. I think they could have one heck of a law suite towards the structural engineer and people who built that carport!!!
  9. Gotta chance to look under the hood of this classic beast today. SOmething different for sure. The chassis was from New Zealand, body from France, and had a Toyota badged turbo diesel. Complete frame off restoration. Guy had a quick question as he had stopped at our dealer to get some parts for his Super-Duty. SO they pull me aside being a diesel "mechanic" and ask me to chat with the fellow. He says he has no power when he hits hills. My first thought at first glance is I don't want anything to do with this. But it's a sharp looking rig and I wanted a closer look. So we pop the hood and gander around abit, kinda like an Asset student's first day at school. So the wheels in the eleven pound brick covering the hole in my neck, are turning away thinking about the basic stuff that can cause low power on hills. This engine was an inline six with a tiny turbo on the passenger side and the air supply being fed from a snorkel on the driver's "a" pillar. The fuel filter was brand new and clear of water, looked like a 7.3l idi set up. The fuel injection pump looked similar to something on a Cummins and the linkage looked good with no leaks. This thing had a ridiculous glow plug bus bar that was fractions of an inch from everthing metal. I finally traced the output of the turbo to the intake manifold as it crosses over the valve cover and find a frickin hole in the tube! I could stick my pocket screwdriver completely into it. SO he fires it up for me and it's puffin air right out. We talk about his options and he calls his buddy who says there is a freeze plug that goes in that hole and he has one at his shop. I liked my idea better, which involved removing the tube and tapping it and putting in a pipe plug. So the gentleman was on his way and I got a chance to look at something different, even though I didn't do much.
  10. Driving habits and location affect these things. In my area, there are no "cities", no stop and go driving, no rush hour. I drive the interstate to work 30 miles one way and might pass 1 car on my side and 4 heading the other direction. Vermont is basically the "bumfukegypt" of the USA. It's cold during the winter so the engine is going to run to get some heat. Some people live where it's wicked hot all the time so you're probably going to have the a/c on, and if you decide to suffer and roll the windows down for the benefit of fuel mileage in town, the Escape will run the a/c whether you like it or not to cool the battery if it gets hot. If I bought one (which I wouldn't), I wouldn't reap any benefits of the design other than some sort of tax break or whatever they offer for going green.
  11. I don't forsee any real positive resale value on these once they get some miles on them. Now Ford is trying for a hybrid Fusion....I would stay away, personally.
  12. I can count the number of FICM's I've replaced on one hand while making the peace sign. But it doesn't get that hot in Vermont.
  13. I think the dude needs to get himself one of these. Problem solved. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
  14. The battery is 10 yrs 150k, this unit was an '05 with 97k. My dealer is not interested in doing the repair because of the potential for high warranty numbers. I have done all I can do on my end so it's out of my hands now. I will say that getting the approval for the battery was pretty painless, not too many hoops to jump thru. It's kinda funny because someone on the other end of the phone has to man up and take responsibility as to wether or not the battery in a car they can't see or touch is bad or not. You gotta love this trouble code description: Quote: P0A80 Replace Hybrid Battery Pack (End of Useful Life) TBCM NOTE: The customer may choose to not replace the battery pack due to the cost of replacement. If a new HVTB is not installed, the customer will experience reduced fuel economy and reduced power, which will eventually lead to a failure of the HVTB. INSTALL a new HVTB. REFER to High-Voltage Traction Battery in this section.
  15. Quote: looking for more photographs that Ford has stolen from me off of this web site. Fords not the only one taking pics from this site. Look at the new issue of Diesel Power and my coolant overflow pic is in an advertisement.
  16. My advice to anyone who owns a hybrid escape....dump it before you hit 150k or 10 years. Just ordered a traction battery for one $8000.00 for the part only.
  17. Quote: A REVIEW OF WARRANTY RETURNED 6.0L HIGH PRESSURE PUMPS HAS FOUND MANY TO BE NOT DEFECTIVE. I wish they would speak the truth for once. It should read "I know we told you to replaced the hpop if the ipr screen was damaged but now we don't want you to do that. All the pumps that are stacked up like cord wood at the return center and check out on the bench are our responsibilty not yours, o.k. .....now go find something else that is bad other than the hpop."
  18. It should still be ok if you picked it up within the 5 second rule, brushed it off, coddled it for a bit and whispered sweet nothings to it. A tsb will follow to reflect this update. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

  22. I've got a question for your questions. Did that truck ever get an oil change? That things disgusting, looks like something out of a marine application.
  23. Looks like they have really open up a can of worms on this one, maybe even a can of maggots. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif Quote: 1203 - SOME 1997 THROUGH 2003 MY 7.3L VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A PHANTOM P0284, P0281, P0278, P0275, P0272, P0269, P0266, AND/OR P0263 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) SOME 1997 THROUGH 2003 MY 7.3L VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT PHANTOM P0284, P0281, P0278, P0275, P0272, P0269, P0266, AND/OR P0263 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) WITHOUT DRIVABILITY SYMPTOMS IN CYLINDER CONTRIBUTION TEST (CCT) ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A NEW STYLE (GRAY) CMP SENSOR. 24. Here is something of interest to watch out for with TPMS issues... Quote: 1206 - 2007-2008 VARIOUS VEHICLES - INTERMITTENT TPMS LIGHT WITH DTC'S B2872 AND B287A - CELL PHONE CHARGERS AND RF INTERFERENCE SOME 2007-2008 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN SPDJB MAY EXHIBIT AN INTERMITTENT TPMS LIGHT. DTC B2872 OR DTCS B2872/B287A MAY NOT IDENTIFY FAILED PARTS AND REPLACEMENT MAY LEAD TO REPEAT REPAIRS. SOME CELL PHONE CHARGERS CAN CREATE RF INTERFERENCE THAT DEGRADES TPMS PERFORMANCE. A DEVICE KNOWN TO CAUSE THE ISSUE IS A NAME BRAND CHARGER - MODEL MOTMINIVPC BUILT BEFORE 2007. TO IDENTIFY CHARGER, CHECK MODEL/SERIAL NUMBER ON THE PRODUCT TAG, THE 2 DIGIT YEAR FOLLOWS THE LETTERS "DC" - DC06XXXXXX. THIS ISSUE MAY BE CAUSED BY OTHER CHARGING DEVICES ALSO. ASK CUSTOMER TO PROVIDE THE CAR CELL PHONE CHARGER (OR SIMILAR DEVICE), ALONG WITH PHONE COMPLETELY DISCHARGED TO PERFORM A ROADTEST. IF DIAGNOSIS INDICATES CHARGER CAUSES INTERMITTENT TPMS LIGHT, ADVISE CUSTOMER TO OBTAIN A NEW CHARGER OR TO USE A DIFFERENT POWERPOINT LOCATION.
